Ds speaks brilliantly, lots of vocabulary, grammar is ace, well on schedule in pretty much every area. Except he drops his 's' in many sentences, he can say it, as he will use it if at the end of a word, but if at the beginning, or often middle he will substitute, or miss it out completely, for example he will say 'broomdick' for broomstick, or 'doddige' for sausage. He does it with every word that starts with 's'. and we find we are now automatically adding an 's' if the word does not make sense.

He is 2yrs 2 months. Is this normal for age? I am unsure as dd did not do this.

My ds is 24months and can say 10 words. I think you are worrying too much.

I am sure I am, just over anxious as several family members have speech delay with s missing, one aged 5 and not yet using s, and one did not improve til 6 or so with therapy. Not close family so not able to ask comfortably.

I think if he's saying words like broomstick at 2, you have absolutely nothing to worry about :)

One of our best friends is a speech pathologist who assures us that most kids have problems with 's' at the beginning of a cluster. iirc (and I may not, as the sleep deprivation has melted my brain) she said most of them outgrow it by around 5 or so. My daughter does it too but at nearly 3 she is already improving. Relaaaax :)

Ok, I shall just go with the cuteness, and try not to copy his words! 'you want a doddige?

This kind of process (substituting an s for a d) is not uncommon so try not to worry. It would usually resolve itself by 3.5 years. Your child is still very young. As you say keep modelling the correct pronunication for him : he says doddige and you say 'you want a sausage?'
