She really has a HUGE appetite. A normal day looks like this:

Early Morning: Breast feed (soon to be stopped and replaced with beaker of milk)
Breakfast: 2- 3 weetabix Shock
Midmorning: philadelphia sandwich (was told to makes sure she is getting lots of calcium since dropping breast feeds, as won't take a bottle)
Lunch: Rice and Vegetables, followed by yoghurt and maybe some fruit
Midafternoon: Piece of fruit and beaker of milk (she won't drink much of the milk)
Dinner: spaghetti Bolognese (big portion!), followed by yoghurt/fruit
Bedtime: Breast feed (soon to be replaced by beaker of warm milk)

Does this look like a lot? she is a big baby, and her dad is very tall and she is clearly taking after him in terms of her height, but it seems like a lot. Is it true you can't really overfeed? I don't give her sugary snacks and I will make sure not to start doing this. I think her only unhealthy part of the day is the philadelphia sandwich, but she loves it and it is a good way to get her calcium.

Thanks!

What's her weight like? If it's pretty average for her age then there's no need to worry.

It sounds ok to me, as long as you do not try to continue spoon feeding after she clearly had enough. She will most likely walk soon-ish so needs a lot of energy for this. DS is almost 1 and has days when all he seems to do is eat, but since birth he's been on the 75th centile so I'm not worried. Is your DD very mobile? If she is, she needs a lot of energy.

Why is the Philadelphia sandwich unhealthy? DS loves bread and cream cheese, and I often take this with me as a snack when out and about. I also add Philadelphia in his food every now and then, I thought cream cheese is fine?

CailinDana · 16/02/2012 10:44

Yeah cream cheese is fine tootired, not unhealthy at all.

If she is a health weight I wouldn't worry. I am impressed with 2-3 weetabix though. I was on 3 when pregnant last time.

princesss · 16/02/2012 11:25

it sounds like a huge amount compared to what my DS eats who is is the 75% tile and is 2.5 but all babies are different so if she a healthy weight then dont worry,

Can I just ask why you're replacing the breast feed with the beaker of milk?
I only ask because if you're not having problems, then it's advised by WHO to continue until at least 2yo.
If you're not able to BF personally, you could express the milk for her to drink from the beaker - then you wouldn't need to worry about the calcium/other missing nutrients.

(just realised I didn't answer the question at all Blush)

It sounds like she's getting the right amount of food, and at that age, foods with fat in are not unhealthy.
it is possible to over feed, and to overeat.

She'll be doing enough running around in the coming months/years to burn it all off anyway. :)

Thanks everyone. I'm getting her weighed next week, so i will double check that everything is fine then. She has just started walking so could be to do with that. I don't spoon feed her, she feeds herself, so I never get her to eat more than she wants to. She is big for her age, probably could be mistaken for 14 months rather than 12 I reckon, then again she is mainly tall, not fat.
