Um... can you get a 6 year old to poo at a more convenient time?

Until this week, ds has tended to do 'number 2s' at around 6 - 7 in the evening, nicely before bedtime.

But this week his habits have changed, he hasn't 'been' in the evening, but gets up at about 6:00 a.m. to go. This is a bit early in this household, but once he's up he won't go back to bed, or at least back to sleep. So he is tired, and because he wakes me for a chat, so am I.

His diet hasn't changed, nor the time he eats (actually it just so happens that tea has been slightly earlier Mon and Tues, but not significantly).

I don't suppose there is anything I can do about his bowels? I'm working on the business of him going back to bed in the morning.

My ds wentto go to a child psychiatrist to discuss his chronic constipation. She actually told us that bowels could be 'trained' to empty at certain times. Apparently over 75% of school age children poo after school, mainly after their tea. She suggested to us that we put our ds on the toilet at the same time each day and eventually this pattern would train his bowels to empty at that time.

I was very sceptical but after about 4 days it worked. Perhaps this is a method which you could use? It may take a while and whenever our ds changes his poo'time' we go back to putting him on the toilet after his tea.
