Hi,just general developmental milestones, walking, speech, fine motor skills, any worries from parents about behaviour, bit of health education about dental care, diet, sleep.
As an HV in our area we no longer have the resources to do universal developmental checks. We send out questionaires to parents then target those who express concerns. Pity I love this part of the job,2 year olds are fascinating and fun !!! Enjoy the check

Had this recently - DD thought she was just playing and really enjoyed it.

They got her to stack some blocks, play with a doll (feed it etc), draw, name some colours, count, balance on one leg, jump, asked her about her friends and stuff like that.

Then they asked me about some other stuff she does, like dressing herself, eating habits, teeth brushing, activities.

They also measured her height and weight and gave us a Bookstart pack, although my friend in the next town didn't get this, as they are phasing them out apparently.

Ok that's great ta. Think she will struggle with talking about friends, naming colours and counting. But at least I know what they're looking for!! Thanks a lot

Ours was less formal than that really and HV just wrote 2 lines in the red book. Just watched her play and listened to her constant stream of consciousness! I was expecting dd to be very uncooperative so was dreading it, but she was fine (had been bribed in advance so that she would agree to being weighed and measured)

Thanks Belinda am praying for an informal one! Dd is not a performer!

Ours was informal too. They watched DS play with some crayons (quite possibly they were hoping he'd draw with them, but no such luck!), got him to pass a ball from hand to hand or something I think. Maybe talked to him a wee bit but nothing like asking him lots of stuff. I think they might have done the colours 'sneakily' by asking him which colour book start bag he wanted (although the HV was really against him having the pink one he chose Hmm and he ended up with purple I think!). But I guess they did a lot of it in a low pressure way - you know maybe checking his walking as he came into the room rather than making him do a specific walk etc. other than that we didn't have to do standing on one leg or anything like that.

As others have said we had to fill in a questionnaire before so I guess they see if that raises any concerns. They must know that 2 year olds don't do things on demand!Smile
