Night time nappies

How old are they when they get out of these, DS1 was dry right through the night as soon as he was dry during the day, but DS2 is nearly 4 and is still wearing a pull up, he doesn't wet every night but you can bet the night I forget to put one on is the night he wets.

how long do you go when they're dry still putting one on ?

Our DD1 came off night nappies the same time as we took her out of day nappies. Sure she has wet the bed in the last year a few times (5 at most). I'm now ready to do the same with DD2 - wish me luck.

Our DS1 is taking a comparative age to get night time dryness happening! We had a similar situation to kjq with our DD but not at all like this with DS1. He was great at becoming dry during the day though. He is now 4! so I really bloomimg hope he gets it sorted soon but I am not one to fuss so will hope that it comes reasonably naturally soon. We tried him pull-up-less at night age 3 and 3.5 but he was wet over and over again. Even now he doesn't have too many dry night time pull-ups tbh. Ho hum, won't fret until another 6 months passes I guess.

I know there were at least 2 kids in dd's nursery last year who were still wet at night and they were 3/4 years.

dd took about 6 months longer to be dry at night.

depends on the child...

some are reliably dry form 2 where as others wear nappies until 6+

until the hormone that helps reduce the amount of urine produced in the night "kicks in", there is not much point removing nappies anyway!

Mine both potty trained (day) at 2 and just over 2 but didn't get rid of their night nappies until a week before their 5th birthday - both of them (girl and boy). I think, what is the point with all the wet beds etc. Leave it until they are ready and strangely enough both of them did it exactly a week before they were 5. No wet beds, never. Not one accident. I wouldn't worry. All children are different. Some do it no probs at 2 some dont. But don't put yourself or your child through unnecessary stress just because you are made to feel they 'ought to be dry'. Well, that my view anyway.

DD was dry at 24 months, but at 3y9m she is still in night nappies and not showing any signs of not needing them. We have tried several times and are now just leaving it again.

my dd aged 3.3 asked if she could go to bed with no nappy 3 days ago. So far, no wet bed. My 9.8yr old ds however is still wetting bed nearly every night. There are no rules, its just down to individual child.

My ds1, who is 8, was almost at nursery when he stopped wearing pull ups through the night, and they were always full in the morning. When he wet the bed he would be in such a deep sleep that he wouldn't waken and just lie in it, and odd occasions we still get wet beds.
my Ds2, who is 6, was still wearing pull ups at 4, and when we stopped it we had a wet bed every single night, unlike his brother he would waken as soon as he did it.
Every child is different, I mind twins, age 2. One is potty trained, the other is still in nappies and just isn't intersted

Both mine were compartively quick to get dry by day but DD2 is nearly 7 and still wears a nappy every night. There is no way she would want to go without as she is soaking every morning. When she did try going without she decided for herself that it was plain uncomfortable and disturbed her sleep. On the other hand DD1 who is now 9, still wets every night and we have to double-make her bed as she won't wear Drynites.

I'd happily leave them in nappies until they decide they are ready. Our GP admitted that her son (9/10ish?) still had problems and she wasn't worried if he wasn't. Her view is that the main treatment for most children is time! She feels she spends more time treating anxious parents when all that is needed is space to let each child grow up at their own pace. She has checked DDs for UTIs and suggested bringing them back if we think there is any suggestion of infection. Otherwise - just keep washing the bedding again (and again).

I was getting myself geared up to approach this subject with ds 4 when he decided out of the blue that he didn't want to wear a pull up anymore-this was the 28th December-he has not had any accidents at all.

Feistybird · 31/01/2006 22:47

AIB - in exactly the same situation (apart from they're DD's). Have had to abandon 'dry' nights 3 times.

edgetop · 31/01/2006 22:59

my ds was 5 in december. is still in nappys, he is wet most nights. sometimes he takes the nappy off himself, but still wets the bed.
