cruiser shoes for 12 mo

my DD is 1 and is walking quite well inaided (can so around 40 steps on her own....) went to look for some shoes, and i saw some really cool cruiser shoes, however the lady in shop said DD needs proper shoes so i have ended up buying some proper shoes which don't look half as comfy or as supportive as the cruisers.....

is there a big difference between the 2? if i go back and buy some cruisers will it affect DD's feet in anyway? Surely cruisers are a better way to break her in gently into wearing shoes after walking only bare foot??

its my only DD and any advice would be great. tia

Not really, no.

The cruisers won't support your dd's feet properly when she is walking as they are very soft. It would do her more harm than good to put her in them.

I do see what you are saying especially if she has never worn anything on her feet before but she will get used to it.

I used to be a Manager for Clarks before I had my dd and we used to get alot of people asking the same question.

How is she in the shoes?

beansprout · 23/01/2006 13:26

Clarks say that they go into "walking" shoes when they have been walking for 6 weeks. The shoes you have bought don't really look like a good pair of shoes for winter. Are they the only ones they had?

misdee · 23/01/2006 13:26

i'd get the cruisers tbh. they are softer on the feet and more flexiable.

Nbg · 23/01/2006 13:27

My dd has the Anna Lily shoe as well

greyriver · 23/01/2006 13:31

she is quite clumsy in the anna lilys, they were the only shoes Clarks had in stock (apart from the cruisers) the shop assistant said they were in between old and new stock so quite low on kids shoes....

she started cruising around a month ago, and only this past week has she stared walking properly, she rarley touches anything for support so is doing quite well....i am just a bit unsure about these anna lilys as they seem so grown up for a 1st pair! And of course not very practical in this weather!

they are gorgoues shoes though she looks all grown up all of a sudden!

Obviously she's only going to wear them when you go out so it's important to make sure she stays barefoot at home

but...

how about buying her some slippers? This will get her used to having something on her feet and also let her "practice" with her new shoes in the house.
Not for very long periods, say half and hour or so.

greyriver · 23/01/2006 13:41

I think will let her practice for a little while in them each day and see how she gets on in them, just a shame they dont do 1st shoe version based on the cruisers!

dd1 first shows were the pre-walkers, as they generally didntdo cruisers and 1st shoes then, she alkedfine in them.

greyriver · 23/01/2006 13:50

when did you change your lo from prewalkers to proper shoes misdee?

shwe got her 1st shoes at 16months when she started to walk, think her proper shoes with a hard sole where when she was about 2years old. dd2 could only have first shoes for her v 1st pair as her feet were too large, and i spend ages trying to find something more flexiabke for her.

izzybiz · 23/01/2006 18:32

my dd had to have cruisers for her first walking shoes as her feet were too small for the first shoes. she walked at a year and had the crawlers first.

starlover · 23/01/2006 18:38

greyriver, like nbg i also work for clarks and can back up everything she said! lol

there is really no reason at all to put your dd in cruisers if she is walking. however, if she isn;'t walking outside at all, then she probably doesn't need shoes at all.

NO clarks shoes will support the foot. they are not designed to. a foot needs to grow naturally, and if it is being supported in any way it will not do this as she will rely on the support of the shoes, rather than developing muscles etc etc.

shoes merely give a protected surface for children to walk on... so if she is walking outside then she needs something tough on the bottom.

such cute little shoes - anna lily ones
wanted those for dd2 but they only start at size 4 - she's a diddy 3!

greyriver · 23/01/2006 18:59

thanks for everyones advice, I will keep her barefoot whilst in the house have been looking at stuff on the net about lo's feet and i didnt really understand the importance of them not wearing shoes all the time until now! Another milestone reached and another shed load of research on the net done.....now i can relax again....until the next time

I am sooo glad I found this thread.. I have been wondering myself when to put my DS into his first shoes, I have always had him in the soft leather shoes or next soft trainers etc for going out in buggy and barefoot in the house.. But your notes all make sense.. My motherin law was asking when I was going to get shoes but he has only been crusing and now walking now for just over a week, he is no where near able to walk any great distance.. So thanks everyone.
