..it's normal, right?

and it's not a sign of being ready for toilet training in the slightest, surely?

gggrrrr just disgusting and annoying.

DD3 first showed signs of being ready for toilet training when she kept pooing in the bath. When I noticed her straining I would hold her on the toilet until she'd finished (few seconds each time), just so that the poo was in the toilet and not the bath. Then I noticed from her being 8 months that when she strained she would look at the toilet. I wasn't brave enough to toilet train for a long time but she was fully clean and dry day and night by 19 months.

So pooing in the bath isn't a sign that children are ready for toilet training (DD2 wasn't trained till she was 2 but she sometimes used to poo in the bath) but the combination of DD3 pooing in the bath and recognising that she would be put on the toilet meant that I realised she was ready for toilet training at an early age.

I've seen it discussed a lot on here, and I couldn't imagine it as DS never did it, not once. Then I had DD and she's a bath pooer - I now know what it's like to chase disintegrating poos around under the bubbles with my bare hands.

So I think it's normal for some DC - it may just be the warm water or something. I try to time baths so they are not when DD is due a poo. On the bright side they should be toilet trained soon enough, I think you just have to live with it until then.

Haha DD did this last night, much to the horror of poor DS who was in with her at the time Grin

Thanks. I'll keep an eye on it then and good hint about the toilet.

I usually flap about when I notice her straining, shouting "noooo don't poop again". It doesn't work!

Mom says I was toilet trained at 13 months but I was in cloth nappies and I'm sceptical about the accuracy of her memory.

DD went through a phase of doing this. It did make my life more complicated as DS (understandably) refused to share a bath with her after the first time. I am trying to remember - I am pretty sure she was under or around 12 mths, and it didn't last a year, so she must have grown out of it before we hit toilet training.

You have my sympathies, OP. Russian roulette bath time is not fun.

xpost LadyWord I only wish it was solid enough to chase...... Blush

I was wondering if it was the warm water but she's only just started doing it regularly.

This happened nearly every bathtime with DD3 which was obviously a problem for DD2 who was in the bath with her. That's why I started holding her on the toilet. She'd do her poo and I'd pop her back in the bath.

My mum said I was toilet trained when I was 15 months but I didn't believe her as I didn't believe it was possible. DD3 could easily have been trained by 15 months but it was winter so I didn't want to do it then and she wasn't even walking at 15 months so it didn't seem right.

I didn't even try DD1 and DD2 with toilet training until they'd turned two. It just wouldn't have occurred to me but DD3 showed obvious signs of understanding at a very early age. At 19 months it took 2 days before she was fully trained.

conorsrockers · 06/02/2012 12:54

Ha ha!! They all do it! I didnt toilet train till they were ready (usually about 21/2 - 3), one of mine was 4! It's a waste of everyone's time and so unnecessary!! I used to get the 'you were 18 months old yada yada yada ' from my mum too!!!

ItsOkItsJustMyBreath · 06/02/2012 15:25

My ds is this age and has been doing poos in the bath for months, not every night but more than others. I thought it might be to do with his constipation as the warm water is meant to help you go iyswim. Is she in any pain when pooing at other times? I've upped ds's water intake and although it's not perfect, it is better now. Hth.

One of my DTs poos in the bath every time, never the other DT, poor child.

Word of warning gallicgreetings don't flap around too much, my pooing DT now gets quite upset when she does one due to our past flapping around, (they're two now). Hence lots of 'oh look, M's done a poo, ha ha, never mind DTs, he he' etc etc Smile

gallicgreetings · 06/02/2012 23:00

nah, I don't flap that much really. My mom flaps like someone just killed themselves in the bathroom or something. she hates the smell so I reckon that's the main reason I was toilet trained ASAP! Grin

Did you see that report on the bbc about school pupils not being toilet trained?
