My DS is having is two and a half year check tomorrow (two months late.)
I don't think he is especially behind on anything but I do know he will not perform, especially for a stranger. They must be used to this, yes?
What do they ask them to do?

Um they didn't get DS to do anything, just gave him a few toys and asked me how he was then just commented he seemed fine as he was happy playing so don't worry too much! I got the impression it was more a place for me to discuss any concerns or questions I had. Don't know if this is normal or not? It was pretty low key at any rate.

It's not really about performing, their will be a selection of toys and the HV can work eberything out by watching them play/talking to them.

Mostly they talk to you.

I remember the HV asking DS1 to build a tower of blocks - he just wasn't interested so she didn't push it. Literally as her car drove away he built a massive tower - typical!1

Yes, antarctic, I think my DS will be exactly the same. He doesn't talk to strangers much and he won't 'perform' as some children will for praise and attention. In fact I have known him give the wrong answer intentionally just because he is fed up of being asked to do something!
I suppose it doesn't matter much as long as he is meeting his milestones but I know it will stress me out even though I know I am being ridiculous.

afaik in the stacking a tower example, they just want to see them pick small things up and moving them around (showing fine motor skills) so as long as they do something that shows those skills or you tell them they DC can do that kind of thing it is fine.

Anyway, don't worry about it - most 2yos are stubborn and uncooperative Grin they will be very used to it!
