Potty training / new baby?

My little boy will be two and a half at the end of Feb and I am due with number two at the end of March. While he showed some interest in potties etc a few months ago, he has since refused to get on the potty / loo seat and we haven't pushed it. He does tell us when he needs to have his nappy changed / can pull down pants / is generally interested in our ablutions, so seems otherwise readyish. I am now wondering what to do with the new baby coming - I will be on maternity leave for three or so weeks before the baby is due, so is it worth trying potty training then, or is that too close to the birth and likely to result in relapses when the new baby arrives? Any tips appreciated!

Thanks! That sounds like a sensible approach. Already feeling a bit end of an era-ish with ds, so would rather spend our last few weeks alone together having fun rather than fighting over pt.

Was in a similar position with my DC. DS was 2.4ys when DD born and was ready for PT but I had HG till 37 weeks pg so no way could I have done it no matter how ready I thought he was!

So waited till DD was about 8 weeks old, DH took a weeks holiday and we did it then.

I actually think it was all the easier because DS was REALLY ready by then and only took a few days to be clean and about 2 weeks for completely dry.
till he started nursery at 3 and forgot how to do it cause he was so excited!!

Definitely wait! And enjoy the last few weeks of peace Smile

Same here, DD was 2.10yrs and DS about 6wks and we had an an unexpected quiet week ahead, so decided to go for it. Hadn't worked previously, but I think with the novelty of the new baby having worn off, it was a good way for DD to get some attention on her iyswim? Much emphasis at how clever she was, and look DS at your clever big sister, isn't she a big girl etc

Within a week she had pretty much got it, then a slight lapse about 4/6wks later and then by her birthday she was dry day and night.

Good luck :)
