16mth dd won't say mummy!

She says about 10 other words, including for some readon wheel, but still won't say mummy! It's quite funny that I'll say mummy she'll prod me say daddy and laugh. If dh asks where mummy is she points or looks straight at me

I know that once she does say it she'll probably never stop!!

Any thoughts?

My 19mo DD2 has only just started saying 'Mum' (not even mummy!) Now she doesn't stop- every morning when I go into her room it's 'ello mum!'

Don't worry, it will come!

DD didn't say Mummy until she was 18 months old - she already had lots of other words like Papa, thank you, doggie, car, bike, snack...

As DP pointed out - she didn't need to say Mummy as I was there all the time!

Ds was able to start making little jokes at this age so it may be she is winding you both up.

Are you SAHM, I have heard some children don't say mummy because you are always there so there is no need.

Ds had over 100 words (about 22mo) before he added 'Mummy' to the list.

Nothing like picking your child up from nursery and having him scamper to you shouting "Daddy! Daddy!" Blush

x post with Bonsoir! Have to say it doesn't work in our case, ds is always shouting for Mama, Mama whenever I'm on the loo...

toomuchtooyoung · 03/02/2012 13:45

Yes I am a Sahm mum. I'm not worried or anything and do find it funny when she laughs hysterically before prodding and saying daddy then grinning

She probably would say mummy whilst I was on the loo if she wasn't stood right next to me looking at what I'm doing!

DS 16 months has only just started mumum. He only has about 5 words, none of them legible to anyone but me and DH, so your DD is ahead of mine.

My DD said Mummy last of all the identifyers. She had 'Daddy' for about a month and 'Nanny', 'Bampi' and her uncle's names for at least a week before we got Mummy
