Twins bashing each other with toys

Hi,

we have 15m twin boys who are ace. My only problem recently is they are bashing each other with toys and generally being quite rough with each other, to the point of cut lips, bruises, etc.

It seems to be getting worse. If my back is turned for a minute all hell breaks lose and I find one has been dealt a 'killer' blow. We have a safe area for them to play in (the Mosh pit), so you can go and get a tea, answer the door, etc without both of them getting into too much mischef. This morning I was preparing their lunch one room away, I came back in (I heard crying) to find one with a cut lip and the other falliing off the toy basket (8" high) into a pile of toys... oh fun!

I have noticed that 50% of the time its just an accident - glancing blow with a toy as one picks it up and swings it about, and the other 50% its on purpose - ie your in my way or I want that toy you have...

Any thoughts?

Mark

I'm afraid it's pretty much par for the course. I took away anything they could do enormous damage with but even with my eyes right on my twins they'd manage to wallop each other. Mine are b/g with quite a size difference but they each give as good as they get, I'd go mad trying to sort out who started it.

When mine were a bit older 20 months+ we and nursery actively tried not to intervene unless they were getting way out of hand and noticed an improvement in their behaviour once they were left to sort it out.

A lot of the accident forms they've had at preschool have been down to incidents between them, luckily never involving anyone else. In class, they're in reception, they're fine with each other, which was a huge relief. Anecdotally I've been told twins do fight with each other more than average siblings but they rarely involve anyone else. Plus I've been told my two are very brave when they do hurt themselves, which I put down to constant bashing.

I know twins who are over 60 and still doing this. Sorry - that probably isn't much help (although they've both survived Grin).

So do I Chaotica, I just try not to think about it!

Mine are 2.5 and are fighting even more at the moment. For the first time tonight I let them just get on with it. Goes against everything I believe my other 3 have never fought like the twins.
I'm not sure if it's a boy think to, they thrive on anything physical and their best time of day it play fighting daddy after tea.

Which I had some answers, my two never do it to other children though just esch other and occasionally their siblings.

Omg sorry should have spell checked, hate typing on phone!

LaVitaBellissima · 03/02/2012 20:57

I hate 15m twin girls and they are exactly the same, sorry Sad

It will get better. For me the turning point was when they started to play imaginatively and realised they could have more fun playing together rather than hitting each other. Shortly after they were two from memory,

Good points - as other OPs have said they may fight each other but will rarely fight others. They get to learn the rules in a safe (ish) environment at home.

Do you have somewhere you can put the hitter that is safe? I.e. take them away from the situation and pay attention to the "victim".

thanks for the replies, it sort of helps :-) Maybe teach them to box :-))))

My 13 month olds do this. Lots of hair pulling too. I put them in separate play pens if they're really bad!
