3.10 year old has suddenly started bed-wetting. What should I do??

fresh out of ideas, wondering if anyone else has any ...

DS wet the bed on and off for a couple of months after potty training about a year ago, but has slept through quite happily since - right up until about three weeks ago, when he suddenly started up again. I assumed it was just a one-off, but he's now done it I think five nights out of the last seven, and I'm feeling concerned. I've done everything I can think of - which to be honest is mainly making sure he wees before going to bed (I did try getting him up one night in the middle of the night, but no dice - and he still wet the bed the following morning) - but nothing has worked.

I've tried not to make a big deal of it - ie not been cross with him - but not to laugh about it either. He's aware that there's a problem, and told me this morning that he wasn't going to do a wee in his bed tonight (!), but doesn't seem able to regulate it at all.

Is there anything I can do? Should I be worried? We did have a period of upheaval in December - moved house, changed nurseries, and DP and I began living together for the first time - but I assumed any problems would show themselves then (unless this is a delayed reaction?).

Argh! Feeling totally clueless. Any advice much appreciated!

Ds wet the bed for a week after being dry for over a year when he was 4.1yo.

I took him to the doctor who diagnosed an infected willy and we had cream (canasten, fairly low %age) to put on it. It stopped within 24 hours of putting the cream on. Ds said it stang very little when he wee-d, not really enough to hurt just noticable.

The doctor said that suddenly wetting after being dry for an extended period should always be checked for a medical reason, so I'd take him off there.

I would check for a water infection first, if he's usually reliable. Make sure he isn't having lots of squash to drink, for some reason it can be a problem.

Both of mine had a blip a few months after becoming dry then it resolved itself, but that was more daytime wetting rather than nights.

we had the same - he got a urine infection at 3.10, after a year of dry nights. sad to say he stayed in night nappies until 4.7! he's 5.1 now. try not to worry about it - perfectly normal, though most frustrating!

Hey all, thanks so much? I'll definitely take him to the go. Legobuilder, did your DS continue to struggle after the UTI was resolved? Either way, gp it is!
