Is your baby around 12months and in a good routine?

What sort of routine do they have? Up till now ds has had a nap at 9:30 for 1/2hr, then at 12 for 2 1/2hrs. He's eating well and very active but his sleep is suddenly all over the place. He skips the morning nap, gets overtired or has the morning nap late and oversleeps so by the end of the day I've been putting him to bed at 5:30. He has been great at settling himself to sleep and has been having really long lunchtime sleeps so I thought it could be a big growth/development spurt (he's about to start walking). Just when i thought things were settling down and he was more settled.
He has older brothers and his routine has been perfect till now, but now he's all over the place. He is teething a bit and has bit of a cold but his days are so upside down I don't know what to do with him anymore!

I think I've kind of answered my own question but I spent so long at lunchtime trying to get him to sleep and can't get our dinner time sorted I feel a bit lost.

Yup. My twins are coming up to a year and my boy is still settled in their routine but my girl has stopped napping in the morning & by early afternoon she's so grumpy she won't sleep.
Hope it's a developmental thing that'll sort itself out...

My 12mo has also stopped napping in the morning. I thought it was because she was ready to drop to one nap, but now she is ready for the afternoon nap at around 11.30 (used to be 1pm)!!!

my older boy only dropped his morning nap at 18months and could still have an afternoon nap most days at 3yrs old if i let him!

My 13mo stopped her morning nap at about 11mo. I tried to put her down but she just chatted to herself. I think it's quite a tricky transition time when they need a bit less sleep but also get really grumpy.

DD currently has a long lunctime nap (from about 12.30/12.45 to about 2.15/2.30)

Initially I found bringing her lunchtime forward a bit helped because she wasn't overtired when she ate and also it perked her mood up a bit!

I can only speak from our experience but she just got used to not napping in the morning and is now fine on just one nap.

Mine stopped napping for the 45 min morning nap at 12mo, 12 mo, 14m and 13m. Brought lunch forward initially for all of them, nap at 12 for 2 to 2 and half hours, then gradually moved lunch back to about 1230, nap about 1. Tricky transition, key is not to get too over tired for the lunch nap by delaying lunch...

My nearly 12 month old (week today!) has a short morning sleep of around 20-30 minutes if I'm lucky - longer maybe if we're in the car. Lunch is 11.30-12ish, milk an hour or so later then afternoon nap of anything between 40 minutes and 2 hours. Sleeps all night though (so far!) so can't complain as her older sister was a very inconsistent daytime napper from an early age and hardly slept at all during the day.

I never know what to do with him late afternoon because he gets so overtired and grumpy. I put him to bed at 6pm last night, because I suddenly realised he's up at 6am with dh and that worked really well. It just always seems to be right in the middle of everyone else's dinner time!

Oh, envy envy envy, my 12mo hasn't napped in the mornings since I can't remember. I do recall transition between two naps and one being a bit up and down, and sometimes putting him to bed at a ridiculous time like six. I can also remember trying to avoid him being in the carrier (and I would imagine the pushchair or car would be the same) after about four on difficult single nap days or he would sneak in a disastrous late afternoon nap that meant he was up until nine. Grumpy afternoons are just par for the course, but it is quite a short course, and I liked to think that he was learning for himself that being overtired is horrible and bed is lovely delusional emoticon
