4mo baby head rolling getting me down :(

Hello. Our 15 week-old DD started rolling her head from side to side to self-sooth in bed when she was only a few weeks old but in the last couple of weeks it has become a real source if anxiety for me. Because her sleep has been very disturbed since she learned how to roll from back to front, the head rolling has become not only more frequent but also a lot more violent. :-( I keep reading that it is not harmful but it really doesn't look it. Has anyone got any experience of this? How did you deal with it? We end up co-sleeping a lot so I can cuddle her to stop her from doing it.

Both my DC did this at various points. DS used to do it in the buggy as well, so violently that it would rock from side to side as I was pushing it! Both grew out of it! I co slept so was able to limit it somewhat but they'd still do it sometimes.
DS is 11 months and I can't remember when he stopped but it was ages ago.
It's hard not to worry about things and that doesn't look particularly nice but DD is 2 and it's definitely not affected her!

Thanks so much for the reassurance. I keep thinking it is my fault somehow.

Definitely not your fault! If you look, lots of babies have a fetching bald line across the back of their head where they do it in the cot and their hair comes out. (DD had this!)

my nearly 10 month old still does this, it used to worry me but not anymore. I do Hope she stops it before she's much older though as don't really want it to carry on through childhood. She does now shake her head on demand, by copying us so now it's difficult to tell if she's doing it because she's tired or because she thinks she's funny! :)

NatashaBee I agree! Wondered why 13 week DD was doing this - now I know!

Both my DS (3.5 and 1.5) have done this from a very young age, in their cots, prams, car seats. Never really bothered me as it seems to help them get to sleep OK. Can't see the pleasure myself Confused
