Following on from the tongue tie thread, anyone know any children for whom the tongue tie caused no problems?

My DTS has a noticeable tongue tie. He's 6 months now, fully bfed and it's never caused a problem.

I keep reading horror stories in that thread, and while I know it isn't affecting his feeding, is it likely to cause problems in the future, with eating or speech?

My GP and HV have both seen it and have advised to leave well alone if it's causing no problems, which it isn't, yet.

DNephew has a tongue tie, he bf to 11 months (then became too interested in solid food and refused breast and bottles Grin). He is now 9 and has had no speech problems and no eating problems (other than having too much interest in chocolate and too little in fruit and veg).

He can't stick his tongue out very far but other than that has no problems.

I am pretty sure DD2 has a tongue tie - looks like it to my untrained eye. But as she has never had any feeding/speech problems i have not had it investigated further. I will obviously keep an eye on it, but am not anticipating any intervention. She is 3.5 now.

I am 35 and have a tongue tie that caused no problems when I was a baby and so wasn't snipped. I have never had any problem because of it, I just can't poke out my tongue very far. When I was younger my dentist advised me to take extra care when brushing my back teeth as my tongue doesn't move so freely in my mouth and so I could run an increased risk of dental probs. Again no probs, I haven't yet had one filling. DS is 13 months and has a tongue tie, it hasn't caused him any problems at all, despite being BF.

DS1(13) has a tongue tie and apart from being unable to lick an ice cream it has caused him no problems. He was bf until 16months. Ds3 has one as well - no issues with bf but 2 years of weekly speech therapy - ds4 had his snipped at 9 weeks due to bf problems. I have one as well - no speech or dental problems - was ff.

My DS is 11 and it's caused no problems, apart from the fact that his speech can be a bit unclear, especially when he's upset etc.

I only just realised he has a tongue tie.

That's good to hear, thank you everyone Smile

We'll leave it be and wait and see what happens I think.

I am coming up on 40, and have tongue tie, and never had it snipped, and I didn't even know I had it until a few years ago. DD is 6, and she has had no problems with it, either, and even though the dentist keeps telling us they have the technology to snip it, he fully admits it is causing her no problems.

My DH has a tongue tie - he has no problems (apart from only being able to stick his tongue out a short way)

Weirdly (tmi alert!) his foreskin is also tied so it looks like he has been circumcised!

DS had one but it resolved itself (quite common for it to break if it's not too thick) some time between 6 motnsh and 1 year. I BF him til 10 months (though I think I would have done it longer if it had been snipped as an infant). He has problem pronouncing some words, but I think he would have been like that without the tongue tie.
