Frightened after sleep episode - help!!!

My 3rd ds is 13wks plus 5 days old. Two days ago he rolled onto his tummy for the first time - twice. At night, ds3 sleeps for the first couple of hours in his bassinette and then after his first night feed will only go back to sleep if in our bed between us. Ds1 and 2 both co-slept with us so this in itself doesn't bother me too much, although I know it's not ideal. Last night, after we went back to sleep after ds3's first feed (not sure how long after), I was woken by loud snuffling noises, ds3 was lying FACE DOWN in the bed beside me, snuffling, head was neither to the left or right but straight down. I immediately rolled him over and his wee face was red, and he was sound asleep. I am now completely terrified, didn't sleep for the rest of the night, and doubt tbh I'll be able to sleep at all for fear that he'll suffocate. I suffered really badly with pnd after both ds1 and 2, but was doing brilliantly this time round. Now I just feel horrible and terrified and don't know what to do. I think he's young to have rolled over and wonder if this is why he struggled so much when he did it while asleep. All advice much appreciated. (sorry its so long).

Poor you. I'm facing the same problem so I'll be interested to see any responses. My DD is 15 weeks and rolled over two weeks ago. Since then I live in fear of what you described because she is always trying to do it in her sleep. But I noticed that no matter how hard she tries, if she is in her sleeping bag she can't roll over. Could that help your situation?

Poor you. Could you try one of those sleep positioners to stop him rolling?

I live in Oz so just about to try to settle for the night, but reckon I will aim to stay awake tonight, then look into getting one of these positioners tomorrow.... haven't actually seen them before so not too sure what's involved, but will look into it. Can't really use a sleeping bag as it's so warm that a vest and sheet suffice. Thanks for your advice.

Oh my goodness...I remember this with my DS. I was the same as you & I honestly felt as though my heart stopped. I phoned HV & as my DS was able to roll over & roll back-she said I want to worry--easier said than done! My DH & I would turn his head to the side so he learnt to do this himself. It did work & he has slept this way ever since. Sleep positioners are meant to be good....I would speak to HV if you are still concerned.
