teething query in a three month old

My baby girl has just turned three months old and for the past few weeks she has been a
Terrible drooler, but in the past three four days she has been extremely irritable and has been passing more bowel movements than usual and they have been green. I didn't know whether the green pop was also a sign of teething. My health visitor said it could be but wouldn't give me a straight answer. Any advice as the green pop is worrying me.
Also I know it isn't a milk Imbalance as I have been keeping her on one side for longer and longer to see of it goes back to it's normal colour and it hasnt
Cheers

I'd take her to the GP if you're concerned at all - could be a stomach bug or something.

You will find that you get some really helpful information (and probably lots of it) if you post over on the Breastfeeding/Bottlefeeding board :)

In the week before DS2's first teeth came through he had the most hurrenously smelly poo - dark green and more runny than normal and quite explosive, but I don't think it was more frequent than normal (he was quite a frequent pooer at that stage). It stopped the moment the teeth popped through.

DS1 had bright green poo regularly from about 3 months until he started on solids - I believe it was overfeeding ie getting too much of the foremilk which is more sugary - he was a big baby and very greedy! I didn't do anything about it as didn't seem to be a problem.

So no exact answer I'm afraid. By the way, they can have teething symptoms for months and months before the teeth come through (sorry!)

I think it is more likely to be some sort of stomach bug. I can't think of any logical reason why getting teeth (and 3 months is quite early for that) would cause this. FWIW DS managed to get all his teeth without ever producing any green poos.

I agree with cecilyp,I dont see the connection between teething and green poo, none of my 4 had any problems, maybe i was just lucky, and my grandson has just had a back tooth through and we didnt even know,he was young when he got his first two he was just 4 months. probably some sort of bug she has picked up.

It isn't a milk imbalance. I had that problem when she was about a month old. When I thought it was that this time round and it didn't go away that's when I took her to the doctors today. She had list weight and I have been advised to start supplementing her. I feel bad as I wanted to Breast feed her until she was six months but bet doctor said that green poos in a healthy happy baby with weight loss is not good.

I am pretty sure that supplementing with formula should be a last resort unless it is something you have decided yourself. Is the weight loss a recent thing?

Some women find that feeding the baby very regularly for a week or so while making sure both sides are used frequently - often offering three or four sides at a time, is enough to get a milk supply back up and running. If your baby is losing weight, and you want to breastfeed exclusively, she simply needs more of your milk to start putting the weight back on.

just out of curiosity took her temperature as I realised her doctor didn't. It is a little below average. Going
to keep tabs on it. My mum told me about fenugreek so I'm going to try some tomorrow. She said try it for
a week so I will. It was only a little bit of weight she lost, nothing serious. Maybe her doctor over reacted a
bit. Scared me though. I still think she is teething even though he said she couldn't be teething this
young. Do the front bottom teeth appear as tiny lumps on the back of the gums?

FWIW - ds4 is 13 weeks and has been teething for a couple of weeks. All mine get them early. Don't know about the lumps thing but his poo has been quite green. When they get older and are on solids and are teething their poo goes a bit mad too. Green poo also could be due to snuffles/cold or getting just the foremilk as someone mentioned. Has she got rosy hot cheeks at times as this is a teething sign? I wouldn't jump straight for formula just yet on a little bit of weight loss - colds and stuff can make them lose a bit. Just keep and eye on it and keep offering her a boob and any opportunity.
