DD (5) obsessed by men, princes and marrying

Hmm Its doing my head in, and also now beginning to worry me. If we visit people and there is a man or boy she spends the whole time playing with them, playing princes and princesses and marrying. She also flirts, twizzles her hair, wiggles her bum about etc, its horrible to watch as her mother. Unfortunately it has been viewed in the past as funny so she did used to do it for attention, but now I'm not so sure. In the school playground she's always off holding hands with boys from 2 classes above her. While I don't mind her playing with boys at all I do mind when she is gazing at them in wonder rather than running about and having fun iyswim? She does have a small girl friend who is into dancing and wiggles her bum around a lot so that may be where that bit comes from! She is also obsessed with bloody Disney and watches it a lot at her Dads. Any experience on this or is she abnormal?

I don't think it's unsual for 5 year old girls to want to act out different behaviours and get attention, and all kids find bum-wiggling funny IME :o. I am surprised that older boys want to hold her hand though, unless it's one or two she is especially friendly with.

Does she have any brothers/male cousins of a similar age? Spending more time with boys one to one might help, she might realise that they're a bit more normal than she currently thinks.

The hair-twiddling etc is a bit weird though. Do you think her dad or other relatives praise her for acting in a stereotypically "sweet little girl" manner?

I think she is normal. I have a DS who is 4 and he's always getting roped in to do marrying. He actually has a plan to marry his cousin, live in a pub and have babies. They will say Coochie Coo to them apparently Grin

So it's not just girls, although they do seem to insigate it.
have a baby DD, so please be here when it is my turn to be worrying about her, and you can tell me how yours got through it :)

Well thats reassuring, its just the level of flirting that a 5yo can do astounds me!
She doesn't have any relations of a similar age.
Nagoo I find it reassuring your DS has plans for his future! I'm sure I'll still be here in 5 years to reassure you ;)
