9 week old always being sick

My DS is sick after every meal and sometimes more often. I don't mean a small posset I mean a huge amount of sick, not projectile but enough to hit the floor with quite a lot of impact. It is also quite thick, rather than just milk it seems to have lumps. He also seems uncomfortable and unsettled almost all the time. Should I be concerned or am I being melodramatic?

Take him to the GP, see if it's reflux (I have no experience of reflux)

Sounds like more than normal possetting to me. I'd speak to the GP.

Take baby to be weighed and check with your health visitor Smile

Sounds like reflux to me. I'd go and see your GP and do some googlng, I think there's a reflux support group called RISA that offers advice / support etc
My DD has silent reflux (she's not sick with it) and is now on medication. My advice is don't let the doctor give you baby gaviscon if you're already using a comfort milk. It makes the milk too thick.
Good luck

The lumps will just be undigested milk. My DD did the same after every feed and it did seem like a lot (usually aimed perfectly down my sleeve or chest). It will get better but do speak to your health visitor or GP if you're worried.

Definitely take him to the GP. My niece had this and they just thought it was reflux but it turns out she had intestinal malrotation and has been very sick. Its very unlikely your baby has this and bringing up a feed is quite normal but always worth getting checked out.

Bringing up bile is a symptom of intestinal malrotation and should always be investigated.

It does sound like reflux, however it could be something else. I would take him to the GP. Initially the majority of GPs hands out Gaviscon, you usually have to try it for a few days and see what happens - personally, it didn't help at all, but then my DD had quite severe reflux and went on to be prescribed more medication. It is helpful to keep a diary for a day or two to show how often your DS is being sick, so that your GP has an accurate picture. Also, keep a note of when they fed, so the GP can see if he is throwing up just immediately after feeds, or in between feeds as well. I would also make a note of whetheer they are distressed or not - some babies chuck up left right and centre, but are not at all bothered by it, some get very distressed (so an antacid might be appropriate).

Good luck, it does get better (even though it might not feel like that now!) The more they grow, the more their tummy muscles develop etc etc.

Just a couple of things I've just remebered...

  1. Your baby's weight gain might be fine, even though they have reflux (mine was)
  2. It might be a lactose intolerance or soemthing else, so keep an open mind!

Keep us posted!

My son's malrotation condition was missed, they discovered it when he was 11mths old. He is now 1 year 1 mth.

He had to have a major heart operation in November but leading up to that he was sick after every feed and didn't put any weight on. All the docs etc kept saying he'll be better after the heart operation. He wasn't.

He's also got a C shape spine and a bone condition which we are still waiting to find out what it is. This has been going on since December.

Yes I am angry. Whenever I ask why was it missed they pass the buck!!!

I am writing a letter to try and find out why it was missed. He is unable to sit up on his own, etc. has physio every week, waiting for Occupational Therapist to meet us. He needs special equipment.

Does anyone know who to contact for help regarding medical negilance?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated?

Thank you : )
