my 4yr old ds has always/mostly been easy- but the last two weeks he has been dreadful and we have no idea what to do. I put him in the corner, stop ice cream etc. He says he doesn't know why he is doing this, just that he has to(!) or he is tired, or he just turns his back on me and faces the wall or says "yeah yeah MAMMA"
He won't come when I ask him-ie to go home- just runs off, calling to dd (2) to follow, which she does, lots of laughing. He won't go to bed, runs at me and tries to punch when I turn the tv off, and this week- first week back.
His teacher told me he won't listen, has been stopped playtime etc but just carries on. She says what has happened to him? nothing has changed though.
There is a boy at school who is like this all the time, but ds doesn't like him- but this week he says "me and xx were stopped play" like its something to be proud of:(
At mealtimes he will stare at me with his mouth open full of food, eat with his fingers, at generally be as irritating as possible. He is still lovely with dd and always has been and is lovely sometimes then this acting up. DH is at his wits end with the silliness but is always at work so its always me dealing with it.

any advice? is it normal? i am being driven mad by him, he is only 4 (nearly 5)

My DS is 4.5 and goes through phases like this too. I think it is just them testing boundaries and feeling more independent. I find sticking to a tighter routine and being really firm with him - naughty corner use etc - usually gets him back on track

They have a testosterone surge at this age but it drops down again.
