My ds 4.8 yo never stops. He talks nonstop he needs constant interaction (won't play alone rarely watches tv and certainly not for any length of time when he does).

On the flipside if we go out he hates walking any distance and will moan and complain to br picked up. I could understand it easier if he had high energy level in general but its like mental energy iykwim? We have a garden and built him a cubbyhouse - won't go out alone. Just now i sat him down with paper and pens and colouring book - lasted 2mins.

I have a baby and work and sometimes need himto just be QUIET for 5 mins!

I have a 4yo Ds who is just the same. He wants to do whatever I'm doing and gets really upset if I say no. Sometimes it just isn't practical. I have a baby too but also an older Dd so sometimes he bugs her for a bit instead.

DS1 is 5 and a half and was always like this as a baby/toddler but has actually improved over the last year or so (I think school may have helped with that to be honest).

The things that Ds1 will sit still and do are reading any form of football magazine/book - he will literally freakily memorise all the facts and figures sit and read the thing from cover to cover over and over again or play on the Wii! He will also play board games happily but that clearly involves either me or DH (or both) and is has always enjoyed jigsaws and seems to enjoy concentrating on those. He will not sit abd colour/write (unless I force him for homework Wink) and not keen on reading anything that is not connected to football. He is not interested in play-doh, again, unless me or DH are sat with him doing it with him.

He also complains when we walk anywhere further than 5 minutes but is clearly getting too big/old to be carried - very frustrating and also embarrassing when he insists on going to DS2's pushchair while 3 year old DS2 happily walks along Hmm

I haven't got any advice but wanted you to let you know you are not alone Grin

However DS2 is a completely different kettle of fish - happily play with his toys and make up stories/games forever.

Thanks for the replies it does help to know its not unusual he goes to school til 2 but we are starting to think of keeping him in for lunch and extra playtime (optional til 3 or 4) as a couple of his mates stay and i think he could use the extra running around time!

my DS2 was the same, at a young age. drove me mad! and when he done my head in - he'd try it on DS1. my DS2 had no intrest, nothing held his attention for long, your not alone. same as ceebeegeebies he calmed abit when started school. he's 7 now, still abit of a live wire but improved alot. although his brother gets alot of his pestering now! :o)

i found that DS2 was intrested when i cooked and often ushered out the kitchen...'busy' id moan. then i thought id join him in, now he is a keen little helper -cutting up the veg, putting tray in the oven, we also do baking on wet boring days to cheer the mood up.
