8mo playing with/putting hands over ears? For comfort or a potential problem?

My dd tugs, plays and covers her ears quite a lot. Sometimes she will do it when she is overtired/getting ready to sleep, and very often when she is having her bottle she will put her hands over them both and play with them. She has been so vigorous tugging and playing with them at times that she has made them bleed.
They don't appear to be causing any pain, and my dh believes it is a comfort thing.

Does anybody elses dc do this? Is it a comfort thing? Or could she be indicating a problem? I've been reluctant to go to the gp as my dh does not believe it is a problem and she does not appear to be in pain.

IME it is a tired sign. Both my DDs did this when they were tired.

She will not pull them off. HTH.

It might be due to teething?

My 16mo does this. I think she's realised she hears from her ears, so likes to sense the noise going then coming back?

If it was earache or such there would be a temperature I think?

sometimes when they rub at their ears they could possibly have an ear infection, mine did with no other symptoms, I only took him to the GP when he rubbed his ear red and they GP had a look inside and gave us antibiotics for ear infection! I was surprised, as he didn't seem ill or have temp or anything. Sometimes worth letting GP have a look.
