My two year old has lost her mojo

DD has had this nasty sinus-y cough/cold that's been going round, and it's knocked the stuffing out of her. She is better now but isn't really eating (has lost about 1kg), is phenomenally clingy (both me and DH are expected to be available at all times, one of us leaving the room causes a meltdown) and everything is greeted with noisy sobbing/full-blown tantrum. We went out for a walk in a park yesterday and she refused to get out of the buggy and walk/play at all. We were at my parents for boxing day onwards, and she spent most of the time trying to get into the car saying 'my go home now'. She normally loves it there. We eventually left a day early as it was all too painful.

You can imagine how she greeted my return to work this am.

I miss my loud, cheeky toddler Sad - any advice? Should I get a blood test to check she is actually better?

Bless her!. Sounds like she still doesnt feel very well to me. My DD is taking weeks to get over what seemed like a bad cold and she is behaving the same. She chews her food then spits it out, has hardly actually eaten in a week or so, but doesn't appear to have lost weight. And when out visiting she has been going and putting her shoes and coat on ready to leave within minutes of turning up! Like your DD, mine is usually a social butterfly. I'm going to check with nursery when I collect her today and if she still isn't really eating I will take her to the Drs. Just not sure if its an out of routine thing or still unwell thing?????

My 20 month old is just beginning to get over this; she and I have both had it for about 3/4 weeks.

She is still a mass of snot Hmm but she has eaten breakfast and lunch today, hurray!

She is still really tired though; slept from 7pm to 10.30am and is now napping again...

Glad it's not just me! It does sound like this cold lingers then, doesn't it? Sad

tinkerbelle, will you let me know how you get on of you do go to the doc?

Try this:

www.healthspark.co.uk/catalog/category/view/s/sambucol/id/108/

They do a childrens version and sell it in Boots etc.

It's high in Vit C, tastes good and is great for boosting the immune system.

Are you using Olbas Oil to try and help her breathe?

Small, light, tasty meals. Hot blackcurrant and loads of cuddles. When you need to leave the room explain to her where you are going, why and how long you'll be. Ask if she would rather stay cuddles up on the sofa with a cuddly, or does she want to come with you?

It's horrid when lo's are ill/post ill and can't express how they feel.

Hope your dd perks up soon.

No advice really (sorry) but just wanted to lend support. DC1 is 2 and going through something very similar. Seems to be on the mend now but moodwise very fragile and volatile (still now).

Suspect there will be some enormous toddler cuddles dealt out this afternoon.

Hope your DD (and yours too tbw) is on the mend soon.

Thanks soaccidentprone, really constructive. I like the idea of a tonic too.

She turned down a chocolate croissant the other day Shock

Latsia - 'fragile' is exactly the word.
