I have known at least 2 children who had no teeth at one.
If you are really worried you can get an X-Ray and it will say if the teeth are there.

CONNEELY · 09/11/2003 17:16

how long should i wait as hv just says they will come when they are ready

I think you should worry when they are 18months, like pupuce says, x-rays would put your mind at rest. And the later dd has her teeth the stronger they will be, my eldest son had his first tooth at 3 and a half months, he is now 9years old, and has had 2 adult teeth removed. Do not worry, everything will come in its own time.

I thought 12 months was towards the end of the scale. DS1 cut his first the week before his first birthday, and was the latest of all his friends.

conneely, why don't you ask around your family to find out when your parents and grandparents had their first teeth in. I think it's pretty genetic. My ds didn't get his first until 11 mo. and then got them in all the wrong order (molars before front ones).
Anyway, is there such an affliction as never getting in your teeth? What I mean to say is, that I've never heard of any child never getting in their teeth or getting them in really late and that being symptomatic of something worse. I really don't think you should worry. And please don't get x-rays unless you have to, it's not great for you to get them frequently.

CONNEELY · 09/11/2003 19:50

i wasnt gonna get an x ray 4 her just yet,and its nice to hear of others,i had my 1st tooth b4 4 months and my dh had his quite early too, shall just keep on waiting....

Hi conneely, my DD 5 didn't get any teeth until she was 14 months! The later they come the longer they last thats what HV told me so don't worry!

aloha · 09/11/2003 20:46

My ds had no teeth at one. Has lots and lots now - a year later. Don't worry.

butterflymum · 09/11/2003 20:54

Agree with others, don't worry. My eldest cut his first at 14months, middle son was 16 months. Neither of them seemed to follow the 'sequence order' in most baby books but this wasn't a problem. Eldest is nearly seven now and hasn't lost any baby teeth yet.

Hope this helps.

(ps our youngest was opposite, he had his first at around 7/8mths and now at 16 months has almost a full set)

Both boys were over one when first peggy came through. HTH.

Conneely - My DD didn't get her first tooth until over 13 months old. She then got her top teeth rather than the bottom ons. In fact even now at 19 months old she still doesn't have the "correct" teeth. She has:

At top: 4 middle ones, gap at each side then the first double teeth at both sides

At bottom: no middle 2, the next two at either side, another gap and then the first two double ones at each side again

DD has been to the dentist and has been referred to the hospital dentist just to check it out - still waiting for that, 6 month wait However the 'normal' dentist said not to worry at all. All children are different; they get their teeth at different ages, in different orders and occassionbally not all of their baby teeth; this also has no indication as to their adult teeth either.

Hope this helps.

jasper · 10/11/2003 14:27

loads of children don't get any till well past one.
IMO eruption dates as found in baby books (and dentistry textbooks) should be completely ignored.

fio2 · 10/11/2003 14:34

my daughter had her first poking through just before her first birthday. But I found they all came through quickly. Ds had his first one early but had one everynow and again.

boyandgirl · 10/11/2003 19:48

Coneely, when you had your scans during pregnancy, did you see white spots along the foetus's jaw? They would probably have been the brightest thing on the screen. Those are the tooth buds inside the jaw. I would have thought that if they were present (and if they weren't it would have been mentioned) then that's an indication that the teeth will eventually appear.

Both ds and dd have had teeth look like they were about to come out, but then disappear, even actually begin to cut the gum which then healed over and the tooth didn't reappear until much later.

Evita · 14/11/2003 14:36

My daughter suddenly got 4 teeth at 13 months. It's absolutely normal and fine and doesn't mean anything's wrong. Enjoy those gummy smiles while they last!

Toddy · 17/11/2003 00:00

I wouldn't worry at all, my DD also suddenly got 2 teeth a week before she turned one. She then got another 4 all together about a month later. My mum used to moan about the fact that my brother celebrated him first birthday with no teeth, only got one well after 13 months! Then it was ages til the next 3, but after that, all came at once.

With my DD, she's had 10 for ages, and nothing more since! She's 21 months now.

hth

Candie · 17/11/2003 20:59

I really don't think you have anything to worry about. My ds1 didn't cut his first tooth until he was 16 month and ds2 was 9 months when he got his They are now 10 and 8 and the dentist says that they have both got a perfect set of teeth

CnR · 18/11/2003 17:33

Since writing my earlier message in the thread, DD has just cut her middle bottom tooth, aged 19 months. According to the books it should eb the first one to come. For her it was the 11th!!!

Still have the other bottom middle one to come yet.
