Worried about DS feet

18 mo DS has only just taken his first few independent steps. He has always been a calm and content baby, rarely cried but watched the world go by. He sat up at 6 months and crawled at 12 months. He has been cruising for a while and now has started standing himself without support and toddles around.
Key worker at nursery noticed that his feet point outwards and asked me to see a HV. Which I did..HV said he looks like he is dragging his feet and I should see a Dr. Which I did..Dr ruled out worrying as it is early days with his walking and also because the feet are not always pointing outwards but keep moving in and out in relation with DS finding his balance. She asked me to come back in a month if things dont look better.

I was not worried till I saw the NHS people. I am now getting anxious about his feet. He walks very confidently with his V-Tech push-along walker and can maneuver it 360 degrees without loss of balance. Should I stop worrying? Should I remove the walker? DH was the one who asked me to chase the key workers comments and I did think she was being overly anxious..at that time he was not even taking to the walker. And now DH is relaxed and I am sitting her trawling Youtube and MN to see if I can figure out anything about walking babies and how their feet change as they get balance and confidence.

Any advice/comments will be welcome. Thanks!

I think you just follow the doctors advice and see if it improves over the next few weeks and if not take him back. It isnt as if she has dismissed your concerns.

I am sure that if it is a problem then it is fixable via right shoes/ exercises etc so try not to worry. My brother who also didnt walk till 18 months had to have treatme

nt but everything was sorted out and they are now normal better than most peoples

Thanks brettgirl2 I do think I have become a worry wart..even when I dont need to be I am anxious. Not nice.
Shall give him a month and then take him back if needed.

My DD was born with positional talipes, so not altogether similar, I know, but bear with me! Her feet turned in, the left more than the right, and we did physio exercises with here to get her to hold them straight. The consultant said at her 3 month check to come back when she started walking.

She didn't start trying to walk till about 16 months. When she did start cruising and walking holding someone's hands, her feet dragged and turned in so much that she fell over them at times, and we got very freaked out. And she walked on her toes a lot. We decided to go back to the consultant even though she wasn't walking properly. He examined her, said her feet were fine and the problem would resolve itself over time, and that we should get her some little shoes to give her feet extra support.

We got her a light pair of cruisers (heavier shoes made the problem worse!), and now, 3 weeks later, she's walking perfectly and even verging on running at times : ) So take the doctor's advice, give it time and don't panic too much, these things can actually resolve themselves, no matter how unlikely that seems at times!

Thanks! I do feel reassured. He is wobbly on his feet (started independent standing up 2 weeks ago and now is walking around...doesn't fall over but is very wobbly!!!
