Weird habit of DS (1.9 years) - Headshaking - is this normal

As the title says really; over the last couple of months DS occasionally does this weird thing of shaking his head vey quickly from side to side for no apparent reason for about 30 seconds or so His eyes look slightly "wild" while he is doing this too. Is this normal toddler behaviour, or worth looking into with doc/HV.

MTS, it's probably one of those things that they do "because they can" - he's discovered that it makes him dizzy or that it makes his head feel different, so he does it to repeat the sensation. It will pass - he'll soon be onto the next thing!

oh good, a nice reassuring post that lets me sit on my arse and not do anything about it!

My DS used to do this and then laugh hysterically - still does occasionally (he's 2.4). He's perfectly normal in all other respects - Agree with WWB I think it's just something they do 'cos they enjoy feeling dizzy afterwards!!!!!!

Both mine did this, I think they are just experimenting with the sensation. Plus it gets a reaction from you - it just made me laugh once I realised it wasn't weird

Oh good! more posts that let me do nothing until DS grows out of it

My ds (now 23 months) goes through short bouts of doing this, and a new tooth always appears a week or so later......
(though the head-shaking is obviously a thing of irritation rather than for fun IYSWIM)

DS (18m) sometimes does the head shaking thing in his highchair -he obviously loves the sensation as he grins and laughs and does it again.
He also loves standing in the living room, holding one arm out in front of him (not sure whether this is a balance thing or not?) and spinning round and round until he falls over!! Mad as a box of frogs!
