Just looking for some new ideas on how to entertain my 8mth old. I am a SAHM and need some inspiration. DD has recently started crawling and is very active - she will happily play by herself for periods of time but I think she is getting bored of the same routine nd toys. I'd be really interested to hear what you do/did with yours when this age.

Get a plastic bowl or basket and put random items from around the home for them to explore (child friendly bits of course....)

There was a shelf he could reach and I put random things he could touch and change it everyday when he was napping ( I was bored)

2 boxes, one full of small toys and one empty - mine would happily put all the toys from one box to the other and back again, took quite a while... :) also a toy keyboard was always fun, ditto a xylophone/drum if you can stand the noise (join in!!)

My DS loves packs of unopened food - like potatoes, pasta, tea bags etc, empty plastic bottles and kitchen equipment such as dish brushes "hidden" in a cupboard that was dedicated for his exploration.

My DS still likes to play peekaboo - like "where is mummy?" and put a piece of cloth/scarf over my head for him to "discover" mummy.

Otherwise I think the local children's centre or library is also great. DS got bored after a while of exploring our home and wants to go out and playgroups are great for him to move about to explore other toys.

Oh and if you live near IKEA, my DS loves playing in the children's show rooms there, opening and closing cupboard doors and all the wooden kitchen etc.

I've had the same issue with my 8MO DD, we tried a 'treasure basket' (google it for ideas) which worked really well. I'm also hoping lots of new toys at Xmas will help.

games we play in our house are:
"what went into the recycling bin last night"
"what can go in the washing machine"
"pull the books out and put them on the floor"
heheheh
i try as i can to get him to play with normal toys but the boy wont be parted from his empty milk bottle.
