My 19 mo ds is very active and rarely sits still to play with anything. Does anyone have any good ideas that father Christmas could bring him that will help encourage him to sit and focus on something please?

DS has the V-Tech discovery tree which he (and any children of a similar age) have loved playing with. He also loves his Brio train set.

Thanks, have bought him brio train set but will look at the discovery tree, thank u.

One of DS's presents is a scribble draw thing - you know, the boards that come with a little pen attached, draw a picture then can erase it afterwards. Think it was from Boots.

Aquadraw is another present he is getting, there appears to be a theme here Xmas Hmm

He also has a lift out puzzle and some lift the flap books. And vehicles, lots of cars, trucks etc as he is vehicle mad.

Mil has got him a mini work bench from ELC which I'm hoping will encourage him to sit still for more than 2 seconds.

He is 18 months and a mini whirlwind Grin

Thanks, sounds exactly like my lo. Loves any kind of vehicle too. And a whirlwind is exactly how I always describe him. Am doing my last bits of shopping tmw so will look at those

I always find this age difficult to buy for as they're too old for baby toys yet not old enough for the exciting 3+ toys.

bluesmile10 · 21/12/2011 09:20

That's what I've found. I look at something that I think he may enjoy and then find it's 3+.

I was actually thinking of a mini trampoline! Seriously, maybe if he likes being so active just encourage it a bit? Maybe I'm nuts...

those crawl-through pop-up tunnels are good, really big when unfolded but fold flat to go away in a cupboard! and they can be used outdoors in the summer. Books that also have buttons you can press (we've got the Gruffalo with all the animals as button sounds down one side as well, loves looking for the owl as well as hearing story) merry xmas

DD is 22 months. We have got her a Brio train set, a toy post office with letters to post, an easel and paints with a magnetic bit plus magnets and a slide for in the playroom. She is very active but will sit for ages with paints or crayons (or a book - but she has hundreds of them so no more for now!)
