Toddler biting EVERYTHING - after last teeth have come through

23 m.o. DS has all his teeth including the two year old molars. Within a week of the last molar coming through the gum he started biting and gnawing on everything. He's also chewing his hands a lot (and dribbling lots while he does it).

He has eczema and when teething it used to spread to his hands because he gnawed on them - which is happening again now. Xmas Sad

He bites on hard things and soft things. He often says 'eat' before he bites them. Very occasionally he says his teeth hurt, but most of the time he says they don't. Usually he's reasonably reliable at telling me whether something does or doesn't hurt.

He used to be a very oral baby and explore things with his mouth, but that had pretty much disappeared by about 18 m.o.

He did have a short phase of chewing the inside of his cheeks, although that seems to have stopped.

It's driving me to distraction and is the cause of some friction between us, especially when we're out shopping. Xmas Blush

Any ideas why he might be doing this - could there be anything other than teeth causing discomfort? It's been going on for about a month now.

Have all of the teeth come completely through? could still be bothering him.

I remember when my wisdom teeth came through, it took forever for the dull ache to go away even once they'd cut through!

Well, they're all completely through the gum, but I did wonder if it was them still pushing through which was bothering him.

I hope it stops soon. It was fine when he did it when tiny, but now it drives me loopy, especially when he's trying to sink his teeth into packets of bread in the supermarket. Hmm

I think I just need to readjust my expectations, don't I?

Can you give him something to chomp on? DS went through a phase of wanting to bite inappropriate things so I'd give him frozen peas or sweetcorn or even cold blueberries to eat. Or he has a soft silicon toothbrush which I dab with toothpaste and he chomps on it - handy for when we're out too!
I shouldn't Grin but I haveimages of your DS leaving a trail of destruction on a supermarket shop...
