I'm sat on the floor holding the bathroom door shut to try and stop her from hurting me and wiring poo everywhere.

She's only 5 and I thought we'd seen the end of all this. She's been screaming and shouting since we hot in half am hour ago.

She hasn't done a poo for 5 days so I know she's constipated and possibly hurrtgmg. She's been waking in the early hours since kid clocks changed so I know she's shattered.

I just don't know what to do right now. She's screaming I hate you, you hate me, you're the worst mummy. I keep telling her through the door that I love her and I'm staying balm. I just can't get near Her, if I open the door she is launching herself at me. She's bitten me, spat at me and because she's so worked up poo is dribbling down her legs, she's wirpng if on the floor and walls.

She used to be like this when she was younger but I thought we'd got through it.

Please can someone give me some ideas?

I would suggest moving her to the bathroom.

rhetorician · 13/12/2011 18:32

well, i think you need to address the underlying issue, which us that your child is constipated; her aggression towards you is because you are her mummy and you can't fix it. What's the background? what happened before, and how was it resolved?

this sounds awful for you both, but we need more info...

In the next few days, take her to the GP. Medicines like movicol work wonders for constipation and poo-withholding in small children.

brightonbleach · 13/12/2011 19:20

try getting lots of fruit into her as well, even a big glass of fruit smoothie might help (add milk and tell her its a milkshake!)
I would take her to the GP though as well, I was terribly constipated as a child apparently and they gave pessaries for it then...
hope you get through it.

Thank you all.

Just to update, she wore herself out shortly after I posted and got to the sobbing and cuddling stage. She was embarrassed about the mess and the things she'd been screaming. We both got into the bath to clean up and she fell asleep in my arms.

She didn't poo so I know it's still in there and will hopefully come out in the morning.

She was on movical before she started school as she'd had withholding problems but since coming off it 18 months ago she's been fine. She's never gone every day but normally every other or every three. I'm similar though and the doctors weren't worried about her.

I just feel like we've taken a massive step back and she was like an animal tonight,, I was actually scared of her. It's like she's possessed.

I will see how we go in the morning and call the doctors if nothing happens.

I posted really as I just didn't know what to do for the best. Does anyone else's dc act like this at this age? Should I be worried? I mean more than I already am. She is fine at school, bright, intelligent, sociable and funny.

I'm just at a loss really. [Sad]

Hi,

I hope you don't mind me popping on. I read this thread yesterday (am so sorry you were having such an awful time), but had nothing to offer.

Anyway, I've been posting myself about my DS's poo on a different thread (not sure if he's constipated but they're super pale) and someone said 'be careful it's not faecal impaction'. That scared me Confused so I've looked on the NHS website and it just said something that reminded me of your dd yesterday.

Apparently if hard poo gets stuck in the lower bowel, then it can be quite common to leak liquid or soft poo because nothing else can get past, and you mentioned about your dd having poo running down her leg.

This is the page I was reading.

Anyway, it reminded me of you (that sounds weird - sorry HmmSmile) so I hope you don't mind me popping on. I think you might have said she was constipated in her younger days but seemed to be better up until now.

Fingers crossed neither of our DCs have it - doesn't sound nice at all!!

Hi biscuits, no of course I don't mind, I'm grateful!

I've just had a read of the link and it does sound right. The psychological symptom definitely fit what we've add experiencing. She was like this before but not as bad and it is all so familiar now I'm remembering.

I've booked her in at the doctors this morning so will update in case it helps you.

Best of luck with your ds.

Smile
