Teething or reaction to cows milk?

12 month DS has just gone onto cows milk for his morning milk. He seems to love it...but his poos throughout the day are very watery. This isn't unusual, he's been like this when teething, but it seems more than usual.

He's not a crier but he's also crying a lot more (especially early morning and between 4pm-7pm) and one complete meltdown yesterday - really unlike him - and yet I can't tell why - so I'm assuming its teething pain. His fingers occasionally go into his mouth, he has a runny nose - no other symptoms really.

Anyway - point is - is the milk causing a reaction or is it coincidence? He isn't sick or anything and the poos are like it through the whole day. Plus he has had cows milk in his cereal for months,

Thanks

Cut it out again for a week and see what happens but if he's been having cheese, yoghurts etc then just adding in cows milk as a drink shouldn't make difference.

Thanks HappyCamel - he's had diary for ages so yes, he should be used to it.

Might just be coincidence but will cut it out

Thanks

Yogurt and cheese may not affect your DC the same way as cows milk - the process of changing from milk to yogurt/cheese includes natural processes which change the milk sugars or milk proteins - so a DC who reacts to milk may not react to Yogurt or Cheese (or may react to one or both).

My DS (13months) can take Yogurt (provided it's only 1 carton a day or less), but reacts strongly to cheese. Also, he can take small amounts of cows milk, but 4 or 5 oz would set him off. It take about 3 days of regular cows milk/too much yogurt for him to develop a full reaction which is - hideous smelling fermented yellow poos, gut pain, red eyes, runny nose, awfull nappy rash, broken sleep. Symptoms go within a day of cutting out cows milk.

He is fine on Goat Milk/cheese, no reaction at all. I make sure no milk products are in any bought/homemade baby food, but he does have a live baby yogurt a couple of times a week.

Some DC will react to very small amounts of cows milk sugar/protein, others like my DS need more exposure. They tend to grow out of it by about 3 years, so worth introducing it to the diet every few months to see if they have grown out of it.
