15 month DD cries when sees strangers....

Hopefully this is just a phase but DS (now 4) never went through this. If someone strange says hello she gets very tearful and can start screaming. This is getting slightly embarrassing when e.g. going to the Drs or seeing friends. I would like to take her into work but know she will get very upset.

Is this normal for her age - as I said never experienced this with DS. If so when should i expect her to grow out of it. She is a bit clingy with me at the moment so must be just general phase.

Thanks a lot

According to my HV, being anxious of strangers is a good sign. It was something she asked about when DS had a 12mth check. I think she said it shows attatchment to familiar adults which is good.

Sounds like your DD is just a little more hightened with this. She's still in the thick of separation anxiety so I wouldn't worry too much. Does she go to nursery or toddler group, as this may help.

Sorry if this is no help at all.

DS3 is like this - he's 17 months.

She goes to a childminder two days a week and my parents one day a week (since she was 6 months old) so is used to being around other people. Regularly attends a toddler group with my childminder which she enjoys a lot and is used to being in noisy chaotic places like pre=school etc it is more when dealing with one or two people who say hello or look at her. I'm dreading her MMR injection next week as she will probably be upset before the needle goes in!

My 19 mo is a little like this. If a stranger says hello she will glare at them, if they insist on trying to get a response from her she will cry. Again I didn't experience it with her older brother, she is much more clingy and def a mummy's girl.

Also she goes to nursery 3 days a week and is happy there and will happily play alongside other children at playcentres.

Normal. Dd, now 2.3 months, has had this come and go in phases. Now she can warm up.

mine is like that too and is the same age as your little DD

my dd is the same at 15 months. she puts her hands up to her face and covers them (i think on the grounds that if she can't see strangers, they can't see her), yet she has been at a nursery since she was 6 months old. i agree that it is quite a healthy sign. she was christened on sunday and i dreaded it, but she was brilliant and the shy phase lasted five minutes at the reception
