Sorry to sound so urgent - but my dd is crying in the cot after i put her down. She has been doing this for a couple of weeks now (10 months) and i have always just lifter her to console her but she is not sleeping in her cot at all for the last few days and now i have just left her to cry tonight. Am i doing the right thing??? She has been fed, bathed, the usual and she is still crying - 35 mins now - i went in once and consolled her and put her straight down. Should i just leave it - i have the monior beside me. She will stop for a few seconds, then starts up again. Please help as this is my first night leaving her and i feel soooo guilty.

if she were mine I'd go and give her a cuddle - 10 months is still so little really

could she be teething? molars can come through at about this age I think (it's been a while - my youngest is nearly 4!) and they can really hurt :(

I'd go in too. Poor sausage, 10 months is young still.

I'm sitting here waiting for answers and crawling thro any other similar cases and she has stopped crying. I hope i have done the right thing - it took 50 mins of crying. Now silence. I really don't know if i'm doing the right thing, but it cannot continue as last night was a disaster. Ended up going to the dr last week and he thought i was depressed. All i need is a nights sleep!

Im one of the mean ones, I would say to go in more often, space out the times you go in every 5-10 minutes. I did it and offered her water each time and my dd got so fed up she went to sleep. If you are sure there is nothing she needs then this will go on till she realises you mean it. good luck

Is she up a lot during the night? It sounds like there is more to this than one night of her not settling when you first put her to bed.

newmumof2at42 · 06/12/2011 21:12

She is up a lot - now sleeps in with me. She was really good at the start and has now become a nightmare. I do think i spoil her as she will be my last one and i am a softie - but it does grate on you all the time. I do get the odd night out and my dh just lets her cry and i get annoyed by him. So i have taken the bull by the horns and tried it out and hope that i get results.
