My 7 year old dd is always saying things which while they are technially true shoudnt really be said, for example today saying " nanny you smell old". When she was yonger it wasnt so bad but not shes getting older it can be really upsetting and embarassing. I have explained to her so many times that you cant say this or that and to be fair she doesnt say that exact sane thing again but it will be something else you just hadnt thought to tell her to keeo to herself. She just doesnt seem to understand that things may hurt other people at all.

How can we help her to get this? She has difficulty making friends at school and im pretty sure this is part of the reason why :(

I think you need to go past the 'explaining it's wrong' stage to actually telling her off.

a friend's little girl said, at that age, "have you got a baby in there? my friend's mummy has a tummy as big as yours and she says theres a baby in hers" Blush I was bigger then by quite a way, but, no, no baby... she didn't know she had said anything wrong though, she was just interested, and her mummy is very thin so I imagine she thought whenever someones tummy is big it means a baby! No real advice to offer, I remember that my friends just told her that people are all different shapes and to ask them in future about people's looks BEFORE asking the people themselves... I imagine brutal honesty is something all kids have naturally, before learning tact/little white lies/keeping ones opinion under wraps etc???? :)

She may not be ready to understand yet- but she is certainly old enough to understand that you don't make personal remarks about people and if you do, you get into trouble.
