Would you want your ds to play at mine after watching my ds2 kick me?

We were on our way to pick up ds1 from school. I took the umbrella away from ds2 as he was mucking around with it. I had warned him that I would take it away if he carried on. He carried on. He was very cross. We were waiting for ds1 when he did a running headbutt at my bum, I told him not to, then he kicked me. I told him not to so he started to kick the umbrellas, told him not to. He ignored me so I made him stand in a space on his own. This was all infront of ds1's new best friend's dad. I said wow this is embarrassing etc. He seemed ok, but now he has cancelled his ds from coming to tea twice. His ds did have a cough last week, but is still going to school. I feel bad for ds1.

I forgot to say ds2 is 4.

None of you would but don't have the heart to tell me!

I wouldn't have given the behaviour a second thought

just a young child having a paddy

try and relax

Meglet · 05/12/2011 16:06

No, not at all.

As long as the children were friendly I'd accept it's just one of those things. My DS hits, kicks and spits at me but AFAIK has never done it to anyone else, apart from the odd outburst at his sister.

Thankyou for replying. I've probably got pmt, but I do worry about the affect ds2 has on ds1. He did used to be worse. Thankyou I am feeling better.

I'd still let my child come to yours. Sounds to me like you were dealing with a tantrum calmly and reasonably.

If you'd been screeching at ds2, swearing at him or threatening to smack him, then I'd say no.

Have a Brew and a Xmas Biscuit

My DS1 is less friendly with one little boy than he used to be, and I was worried it was related to DS2's behaviour when the friend came to play. I asked the friend's mum as we are good friends, and she said not. I hope this is true!

Chundle · 05/12/2011 16:24

Nope wouldn't bother me as you were calm. If you had belted him one and sworn at him that's another matter! My dd2 spits, kicks etc all the time at me!! I'm sure there are other reasons behind why the boy can't come to tea and if it is because of ds2 then the dad is obviously an obnoxious shite!

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 05/12/2011 16:31

Yes.

If you'd screamed at him and thumped him, then no.

If you'd stood there ineffectually whimpering "jonny, don't doooo that" but not actually dealing with it, then no (cos I'd worry that you'd be equally as ineffectual if he kicked my child Grin)

But you dealt with it, so yes, I'd just put it down to kids being buggers Grin and trust that you'd stop him from kicking my child and it wouldn't bother me.

And, tbh, I am surprised that a parent doesn't know that children can be little buggers sometimes and it doesn't mean they will beat little darling half to death with a lead pipe Hmm

Thankyou for your replies. I feel much better. I knew MNetters would talk some sense into me. Normally I would ask, but i don't know him. My Mum says just smack him, but I think that escalates the situation, so it is reassuring to hear a similar point of view. It is good to hear he is not the only one like it. I will have a Xmas Biscuit ! When it happens again I will think buggers gggrrr!

I let my DS go to play with a friend where her younger brother has way worse behaviour towards his mum than you have described.
