we did encourage him few times ....and he use to walk a bit few steps...now he just want to hold hand all the times...and if we leave him alone he stand for few seconds...and then cry that he wants support....why is so scared?
He never had a bad fall....or similar.....

he just refuse to walk in his own....of course he cruise a lot....

My DS was like that when he first got the hang of walking - it took him a month or two after his first steps to let go of my hand! Has he got some sort of walker or toy pram that he could use whilst he gains confidence.

think there are a fair number of 17 m children not yet walking independently . If you are worried check it out with your gp?

my bf's ds didn't walk until about 19 months. Don't worry, he'll walk when he's ready.

I'ld relax and let him do it in his own time. It's amazing how quickly they catch up once they do start walking frequently. No harm in having a word with GP if you're worried.

DD was the same. Held on to my finger for two solid months, until she and I were utterly pissed off - then it seemed as though her frustration got bigger than her fear, and she let go and never looked back! 16 months was a generally anxious stage for her, so I think that didn't help - she's very confident now at 25 months. Hope the GP reassures you.

My daughter wnet from crawling to walking (she never cruised)and started walking at 18 months, and not too long after she was already running. Don't worry just keep positive and keep encourage him by making reach toys and things
