Am I being mean?

Dh took dd to a party (15 min drive), dd had failed to tell us it was a swiming party, so no cozzie. Cue mega hysterical strop from dd. I get dh to buy a swim suit at the pool (she needed a new one anyway tbh) and arranged the loan of a towel. DD is then 100% fine. About 5 minutes after dh returned I got a phone call from the mum organising the party. Dd is hysterical with a tummy ache. Dh returns to pick her up.

I am deeply cynical as dd has been throwing the ;'tummy ache' line to get out of things when she is not 100% happy. She is nine.

Am I wrong to be cynical?

yes and no, I think.

I used to get stomach aches when nervous as a child. there was no physical cause but they were very real to me. they only stopped when I realised that (and I think I was 9 when that happened). I didn't get hysterical though - that would make me slightly skeptical.

no

but I would play sympathetic and go and tuck her up in bed .. no supper ... see if she throws it again

I think it sounds as though she's not happy about something. Maybe she's just exhausted after the start of term and having to get up in the mornings?

Roisin, I'm looking forward to Mondat! Actually I think she is too, and needs the order after three weeks of laisaiz faire.

She is in bed, sans supper and has, I think, zonked out. So I think she was over excited, something didn't fit her game plan, hysterical fit, easy out.

Hay ho, good job we love them eh?
