What should a 3 month old be doing?

Just wondering what your experiences at 3 months were. I can't remember from ds, but dd who is 3 months today is smiling lots, laughing a bit, starting to make some vowel sounds, but not much, and sucks her thumb a lot. She sort of bats toys on her activity arch, but hasn't really found her feet yet. She is sleeping through the night, and has 2 naps a day, though obviously this varies.

Sounds like a perfect 3 month old to me! Enjoy!

Frenchgirl · 04/11/2003 17:32

she sounds just about perfect to me! From memory, that's roughly what dd used to do at 3 months. It's lovely when they start sleeping throught the night, how long has she been doing it for?

zebra · 04/11/2003 17:34

Answer: Not much of anything! Definitely smiling and should find (be able to use) their hands by 18 weeks. That's about it. Babies are very boring until 6 months old or they start crawling (IMO).

fisil · 04/11/2003 18:33

I agree Zebra - why couldn't we have maternity leave at around 6 - 10 months instead of in those boring first few months?

Musica, your dd sounds perfect! (how can I make that a green smiley face?)

suedonim · 04/11/2003 20:27

Can I have all your tiny babies, Zebra and Fisil, and give them back to you at 6mths?? I love the itsy-bitsy-ickle ones!

You babe sounds gorgeous, Musica.

alibubbles · 04/11/2003 20:29

I'm first in the queue suedonim, I adore tiny babies, they are sooo helpless an wonderful, I love that nurturing bit.

motherinferior · 04/11/2003 20:55

Mine did much the same.

Have to say this time round I'm enjoying the little stage much more.

Through the night, eh. Always? you lucky wotsit

suedonim · 04/11/2003 21:05

Sorry, Alibubbles, I asked about two minutes before you, so I'm first in line!! You can have them at night, though.

wiltshire · 05/11/2003 00:48

Fisil, Zebra I agree about the going back to work at 6 months bit. DS will be all giggly & squidgy and doing stuff and I will miss it. Yet now all he does is eat, shit & sleep. Could have done with mat leave in 6 months.

alibubbles · 05/11/2003 07:37

Let's be fair Suedonim, we'll have one each!

suedonim · 05/11/2003 09:17

Oh, okay then, Alibubbles, that's fair enough. I dreamt that I was looking after one of these babies last night, only five days old and it could talk!!!!

Bozza · 05/11/2003 10:40

My DS slept through the night at 12 weeks. It was a trick he didn't do it again for weeks. Was about 12 weeks when he started reaching out for things. He reached for my hair in bed and I thought "ah he can do it" and started encouraging it.

fisil · 05/11/2003 20:29

OK, next time round, can you provide me with an address label & I'll post him/her round? But I will want him/her returned on the dot of 6 months, weened & sleeping through.

suedonim · 05/11/2003 22:51

Lol, Fisil! Date of return will depend on the Post Office, of course. We don't want the wee mite hanging round in a sorting office for weeks, do we?

aloha · 05/11/2003 23:27

From memory, I don't think mine did much other than suck, look about, cry, sleep and look unbelievably beautiful. Oh, and stay awake all night. Very, very good at that.
