16mo dd2 is a bum-shuffler extraordinaire, showing little interest or inclination to attempt to walk. Which is mostly fine, except that our house has a few single steps that we can't gate off. And I don't feel a need to remove every potential hazard like this as dd1, a crawler, learned quickly to turn round and crawl down steps backwards. All fine then.
But I can't work out how to show dd2 how to do this starting from an upright, sitting, bum-shuffling position. I've tried getting her to shuffle to the edge, put feet on floor, but they just sort of crumple and she'd land on her nose. And if you shuffle backwards, well, that would be pretty grim too.
Have any other parents of bum-shufflers found strategies for occasional steps, apart from letting them learn the hard, head-bumpy way (not working so far
