Does all babies commando crawl before normal crawl?

My 9 months old is not crawling yet (unless you count commando crawl backwards). I just wonder do all babies commando crawl first before they crawl 'properly' on all fours? That is, if they crawl at all. My DS is starting to stick his bum up so I wonder whether he may simply miss the commando crawl stage.

No, not all babies commando crawl. Some do and then carry on moving like that and others get straight up into a normal crawl.

No they don't :)

DD1 didn't commando crawl as far as I can remember but DD2 started doing it at around 5.5 months old. She crawled 'properly' a few weeks ago at 9 months.

No, I also got told off by DS's Godfather, ex army, who informed me it was called leopard crawling.

No, I've only ever seen 3 babies do commando crawling...

DD crawled on all 4 at 10 months. Walked at 14m in a steady confident manner

DS commando at 7m. Never crawled all 4's. Walked badly from 10m fell over a lot , wobbled hobbled etc. At 14m he was a confident walker exactly as his sister's first steps

Birdsnotbees · 18/11/2011 21:21

Nope. DS walked at 10.5 months - never crawled. DD is trying admirably to walk at 8 months (!), shows no inclination to crawl whatsoever.

They all do it differently, in their own time. I wouldn't worry about it.

These couple of days my DS suddenly showed a lot of interest in walking assisted (me holding his arms). Looks like he may not crawl afterall.

Does anyone know whether these kind of 'assisted' walking is bad for babies? I wonder whether I may twist his arms by accident!

Swinging is dangerous as you can pop elbows so don't lift from wrists too much
And watch your back!!
