yesterday whist i was at work my 2 year old fell into a china vase and got a nasty deep cut on his wrist. we were in hospital all night as they were concerned with just how deep it was but after asking him if he could wiggle his fingers and if he could feel things the same they said they didn't think there was any nerve damage (how they can trust a 2 year old to answer that properly i don't know!) anyway they decided to try and let it heal without stitches (using the strips) but to expect it to be very sore and keep lots of calpol and nurofen on standby. it's all bandaged up and they said to see a nurse on monday to have it checked.
today i was expecting a grumpy and sore child HOWEVER he isn't feeling any pain, he's playing normally and has even knocked it but didn't say ouch!
this is a huge, deep cut, surely it would be causing him pain. should i be worried or does he just have a high pain threshold???!!!
Advice would be great as i don't want to bother the doctor if im just being silly!

Did he cry when he did it?
My ds1 appears hard as nails whenever he has a proper injury like a cut or big bump, but makes big dramas about small scrapes!

Incredibly, my son fell when playing on a logpile and the inside of his forearm was cut wide open when it slid down the blade of the axe - an absolutely freak accident - it was a very deep cut, through tendons and needed surgery to close it. He said it didn't hurt!!! It seems that the nerve endings are all near the surface, so it may not be so surprising that it is not as painful as you think it should be.

Even though he is young, he can still know if he is in pain or not, so I would urge you not too get too worried about it.
