4 month old fidgety??

Hi there. New to this section, but have had some great help in bottle and breast & sleep so going to try here too. My ds is 4 months old tomorrow and is not the most chilled baby ever. He pretty much constantly fidgets, has curled up fists and toes, he's constantly looking around (particularly at lights) unless very sleepy and I'm not sure if this is 'within normal' for babies this age?! I took him to baby massage and I can get him to lie still for about 30 secs by holding his gaze then he wriggles, turns, fidgets and farts throughout the rest if the class!! I have spoken to others reference this and also read things on net that sometimes when babies have trauma during birth it can affect the type of baby they are? Has anyone had any experience of this? Or any tips? I am considering talking to my gp/hv ref this but am worried I'm being paranoid!
Tia for any help.

I had one like that too! He's now a very active, very fidgety 2 1/2 year old. Not much help to you, but I don't think it's that uncommon.

When you were pregnant did you have an unusually high number of movements then too? Mine pretty much didn't stop moving, every appointment he was a different way up. I had a fairly straightforward delivery, so I'm not convinced that's necessarily the cause. Probably just a sign of intelligence (hopeful - that might make the not sleeping worth it!!).

Yes he did move quite a lot in my belly. Was breech, then not breech, then breech again. Changed right at the end. Was particularly active at night in womb too. Now it's all day and night. Ha. Hope the Intelligence thing is true, if it is he gets that from me, not his father! Lol. Grin He seems to be quite forward in comparison to some much older babies.....I know at this age it's difficult to tell and all babies develop at different stages, but wondered if part of his fidgety ways were due to a little frustration too?! Smile

My DS wanted to know what was going on all the time. He found lying down very frustrating and he was easier to manage when he cracked sitting up by himself. Then he was desperate to pull up / crawl / walk / run / climb / jump etc. My friends children all seem very calm and laid back in comparison!

Ditto....baby massage is a little Blush. But I wouldn't change him for any other baby. God bless him. If only he would sleep better I'd have more energy in the day to deal with his demands! Ha. Oh well. Grin

snap my LO is 18 weeks and will not sit still unless he is sleeping. He cant sit unsupported yet but is desprate to walk!!!! if we hold him up he will happily walk across the room with a few wobbles :)
So as far as i can see its normal. We have just ordered a walker so we get a bit of a rest and the jumperoo really helps to.
Iam sure it will be eaiser when your LO can sit by himself wont be so fustrating for him.

My 4mo is also very active - hates lying down and sitting still, and always looks like she wants to be on the move! She is always looking around to see what's happening. I figured it was just her personality :) a door bouncer is great, as is the sling as she can see everything that's going on. I'm looking forward to when she can move though, as I think she'll be less frustrated then.
