4mo DD's feet and hands are very sweaty...

Hi, was hoping for some advice here. My 4mo DD's feet and hands are really sweaty so I decided to do some research online and I came across a site which stated that it had been linked to SIDs...I hope to god it's not true but it's got me so worried and paranoid now, I'm actually terrified to leave her when she's sleeping and I wake up during the night now just to check she's breathing as she sleeps through the night. Could someone help put my mind at ease?

Hello lionsgorawr - I'm sure it's just clammy hands and feet but if you're concerned about SIDS, take your dd to the GP and double check. better to be sure than not. Smile

Is DD, you or your DP hypermobile? Certain Collagen disorders make you sweat more - both my DS2 and DS4 have Hypermobility, and had sweaty hands/feet that were a bit out of the ordinary for babies (proper sweaty feet smell on a baby!).

I think its only related in as much as there's a correlation with SIDS and overheating, so I'd start by checking the room temperature she's sleeping in and maybe losing a layer or switching it back to a summerweight one (with central heating may actually need lighter covers in winter).

What is she wearing when you notice she's sweaty?
Does she look hot & bothered with it?
Does she have a bit of a viral infection sending her temp up?

(sorry if too obvious, but common things are common!)

We have a room thermometer and check it all the time, basically dicatates when we have the heating on or when we dont. It's getting pretty cold now so we have her in a normal sleepsuit and a 2.5 tog sleepbag, which she seems fine with.
It can be when she's wearing anything really, Sometimes even when she doesnt have her socks on.
She never really seems bothered or hot by it and she's perfectly healthy right now too.
I've never looked into if she's hyper mobile or not, DP and myself aren't.
We're really strict as well with the whole preventing SIDs thing too, I keep the leaflet on her changing table in her room and go through the checklist every night like she's on her back, feet are at the bottom of the moses basket, she can't wriggle under the covers, stuff like that. We also smoke outside so she is never exposed to cigarette smoke. Even when we come back in from having a smoke we wash our hands with anti-bacterial gel and rinse our mouths out with mouthwash so we don't even breathe the smell of it on her.
I'm basically just terrified of it happening to us and maybe I'm just looking too much into things, I just really want to make sure we don't lose her to this as I really can't imagine our life without her....Sorry for rambling..

my 3 month old son's hands and feet are also always quite sweaty - quite wet sometimes with it. i think it is just clamminess (he also always has his hands closed in a tight grip which probably exacerbates this too). i wouldnt worry about it too much i think it is quite normal.

Some people just have sweaty hands and feet - noone would hold my hand at school as I always had wet hands(!) I am still like this....
