I know it sounds like a cause for boasting, but I am actually a little worried! Can he damage himself doing this?

Wow, does he/she also have a nap? My ds used to manage 13 hours at night, but seems to be able to function on 12 a night only plus a little pm nap. I would not worry if I were you.

JayzMummy · 03/01/2006 08:41

My Ds1 slept 14 hours right through. He is 12 tomorrow and still needs his sleep...he is a bed monster!!
On the other hand I have been awake since 2.45am with DS2 (9) who sleeps about 3/4 hours a night....wanna swop??

Bozza · 03/01/2006 08:47

While its been the holidays DS (nearly 5) has been sleeping 12.5 hours no problem. The problem I have is that now that I am back at work on the 3 days I am working we only have time for 11.5 hours and its not quite enough.

Enid · 03/01/2006 08:49

mine both (3 and 6) sleep for 13 hours a night in the hols and they function on 12 for school terms

QE2 · 03/01/2006 09:28

ds2 (9) went to bed at 8pm last night and is still snoring his head off almost 13 and a half hours later. I will probably have to poke him when it's back to school tomorrow. dd (14) could sleep like this, as could I (and do when dh is off!)

ds1 (11) sleeps about 10 hours, ds3 (3) does a 12 hour stint and has a 1-2 hour nap most days. ds4 (1) goes to bed lovely but then will wake up for an hour or two every night and then be up again at 7.30.

Everyone is different, so I should make the most of it; the only thin I would do is adjust his bedtime so he gets up at a reasonable time in the morning.

Trophywife · 03/01/2006 09:36

my ds (3) goes to bed at 6pm, stright to sleep and wont wake till 7.30am sometimes 8am, without a nap during the day.
i think thats its normal at this age to need that amount of sleep.

harpsichordcarrier · 03/01/2006 09:39

Lucky lucky lucky you!!!!!!

hunkermunker · 03/01/2006 15:07

I wondered this the other day too, Colditz (but about my own DS - I'm not that odd!) - he'll happily sleep for three hours in the day (occasionally four!), then for up to 15 at night. Sometimes I feel I hardly see him! But he's a whirl of energy when he's awake (why sit when you could stand, why stand when you could jig about, why jig about when you could be doing laps, etc!), so I figure he's just wearing himself out. No doubt it'll all go to pot when the new one arrives so I'm making the most of it!

One thing he does do that makes me laugh though is he won't miss a meal - so if his extra-long nap means he sleeps through lunch he'll have that at 5 or whatever, then at 6.30 he'll run to his highchair saying, "Tea?" hopefully and eat his tea. He eats more than I do... Again, I'm sure that'll all change and he'll end up eating less than an anorexic sparrow, so I figure go with it while it lasts.

Weird to be worrying about them sleeping and eating too much though, isn't it?!

hunkermunker · 03/01/2006 15:08

Just to clarify if he's had four hours in the day, he won't sleep 15 at night...usually. Bloody hell, the reason I feel like I've hardly seen him is because I hardly have some days, obv!

Frostythesurfmum · 03/01/2006 15:17

What a relief! My dd sleeps 12-13 hours at night and 1-2 in the day too. I was getting a little worried that it was too much as well.

Pfer · 03/01/2006 16:16

hate you all.

DS1 sleeps from about 8.30pm to 7.30am no naps- fine.

DS2 sleeps from about 7.30pm to 4.00am - 1 daytime nap of about 1hr. Not fine. Not fine at all. I am VERY VERY tired today.

fennel · 03/01/2006 16:19

mine are sleeping lots lately, the cold dark weather is helping. all 3 have been sleeping 13 hours most nights lately. such bliss....

never thought to worry about it though. i think it's very normal.

megandsoph · 03/01/2006 16:22

my 5 year old and 3 year old got up at 9:30 this morning they went to bed at 7pm mind you surel afte school starts that will change

I think its actually good for his health colditz as they say sleep is the best thing for us.

HappyNewFrannyandZooey · 03/01/2006 19:28

LOLOLOL Can't believe what we mothers are like - "Can they damage themselves sleeping too long?" Oh my [wipes tear of laughter from eye]

Am green with envy btw

Ragtaggle · 03/01/2006 19:49

I shouldn't look at this thread but it's like a car crash - I can't resist peeping in. As the mother of two children with a penchant for early mornings I can't believe you are even worried - I would love a child like this. My ds1 is only three months but is already showing worrying signs of being like his sister (Woke at 5 am for ten months) but I know others have it much worse so wont go on here...

TeddyRobinson · 03/01/2006 19:49

Lucky you!

hunkermunker · 03/01/2006 19:51

Don't worry, am expecting any moment, so will have newborn making my nights "interesting" again - you may all laugh then
