Brushing teeth question

My DS is nearly two and is fairly good (at the moment) at letting me brush his teeth. I just wondered though at what age they learn to spit the paste out? He still sucks everything off the brush and swallows it, which I assume is normal for his age now. But when did your DCs start to understand that they should spit it out? Am just curious.

I have no idea but will watch with interest. DD is 2yrs 2months and sucks all the toothpaste off before brushing....

Have also been wondering as you aren't supposed to rinse to keep the fluride working.

How do you teach spitting? Its one of those things like blowing your nose I have no idea what you actually do to make it understandable.

I try to get him to watch me do mine but he either laughs or wanders off, bored.
I suppose it does mean that a tube of toddler toothpaste will last forever as you can't put much on the brush if they still swallow it....

I'm sure mine were spitting out by the age of 3. Just use a smear of toothpaste and they should be fine.
