Any parents of sleepwalkers out there please?

dd does it very occasionally. We want to get bunkbeds. Don't know if this is a complete no no (she would be on top) or if the fact that sleepwalkers can open doors, drive cars etc suggests that her sleep walking wouldn't necessarily make bunkbeds hazardous.

Would love to hear from others with sleepwalking children. Had thought not to get them to be safe, but she hasn't sleepwalked for weeks now and wonder if being over-cautious.

Hi. DD1 did it for years! Many tales over the years, some funny, some not but once DD2 & DS1 came along the girls were forced to share a room as we only had 3 bedrooms. We put them in bunkbeds to save on space and I can honestly say they've never been a problem. If she went for a wander, she just climbed down the ladder!! No accidents, I think they know where they are when they go to sleep.

My youngest sleep walks. We have often found him at the top of the stairs but he has never attempted to go down them.

Do you know what triggers her sleepwalking, it seems to be stress for my ds. So I can sometimes see it coming.

I think my main concern about the bunk beds would be the very remote possibility that her clothing may catch on the ladder and she would be unaware of it.

Thank you! Was beginning to think we were alone...

When she sleep walks I think it probably is a bit stress related. It seems to happen an hour or so after going to bed (and googling this seems pretty typical) so I was thinking if we do go for bunkbeds we'll get the monitor out and then we'll here her and get in there before anything major can happen (we're in a flat so seconds to get to her room.)

Glad to hear your experience admin. I've read on various random health websites that bunkbeds are a no no but that seems to contradict the fact that sleepwalkers seem to function normally. Your experience seems to bear this out.

Thanks again!

PS Do/did you also find it tends to happen quite soon after first going to bed?

Yeah, normally within an hour or two of her going to bed so we've always been up. She quite often gets up during the night to use the loo too but I find I wake up, listen to her climb down and then back again and then drop back off!
I'm not trivialising it cos we have had incidents over the years, but none of them have ever involved the bunkbeds and I'll admit I was worried when I bought them. Hope everything goes ok for you.Smile

just to confirm, she's sleptwalked twice since we got the bunkbeds and navigated the ladder just fine.
