Weaning using Gina Ford book's after following her Contented baby book

Hello,

My DS is 16 wks and I'm going to leave it as long as possible before weaning him. I feel that I need to get ahead of the game by doing my research now. I have him in a really good rountine mainly Gina Ford with bits of The Baby Whisperer thrown in the mix too. He's thriving on on it and has just started watching us eat. Has anyone used Gina Ford's weaning book or have any suggestions before I embark on this next chapter. All advice welcomed.

Fair point re calpol - it might not be in the book. I have no axe to grind about GF, and yes I have read the book. My baby didn't though so we had different ideas of what we wanted out of our day.

As for the calpol - It is what my friend did, and she said it was in order to stick to the routine.

That is all.

I think your friend needs a stern word in her ear about when it is and is not appropriate to give calpol!!!

Well thank you for ALL your responses. Personally I feel I still need guidance as I'm moving onto a new stage. I'm trying to be a responsible parent with common sense by doing as much as I can to help the little man discover & learn to love different kinds of food when the time comes and for me that needs to come from books at the moment. I'm sure on number two I will have experience and instinct to go off then.
Thanks once again x

Hi OP!
I used the weaning book, and my DD loved the whole process. It was great having a guideline to follow when I felt most confused about quantities etc. My dd now eats pretty much anything...we moved onto some annabel karmel recipes and also our own concoctions after a few weeks of the more basic puréed stuff. definitely use it as a guideline, and adjust amounts and times to suit your needs. She says this herself so hardly the prescriptive militant people make her out to be! And the calpol thing is bollocks.

I should say we are on a gina ford routine, so having a feeding schedule that slots in neatly with the sleep times was a big bonus. Like yours, my DD has thrived on the routine, sleeps like a dream and now I can say she also eats very well compared to many other babies her age. I am no fool, it can all go tits up with teething/ a cold but it is helpful for us to have a bit of a pattern to our day.

There is also nothing that stops you combining her weaning process with some fun finger foods. So you can explore various ways of eating with your child.

what Coraltoes said.
I was quite anxious about weaning before i did it like you OP but i found I loved exploring foods with ds and found the weaning book really helpful - esp the emphasis on getting little ones used to savoury foods, and ultimately th kind of food you might eat as a family together

lol at how many cubes to give and how big they should be.

If you feel you want guidance (and we all need a bit of that sometimes) look at the weaning topic on here, so much distilled experience. Better than any book.
