Hi all. Urgent advice needed. DD2 born at 2.25am this morning. We came home at lunchtime. Lots of dirty nappies. Had been breastfeeding. Now DD2 hasn't fed since 2.30pm and has been sick (very muscousy) twice. She was born very fast - went from 5cm dilated to birth in just over an hr!

Don't know what to do. Any advice?

Very worried mum.

Phone the delivery ward and ask their advice?

Iggly · 08/11/2011 20:37

Ring your midwife.

It could be that all the mucus didn't clear out as she was born so fast (was she suctioned?)

I would ring the hospital too or the on call midwife for advice.

Yes phone the ward you came out of and ask them and if you're not satisfied go to the nearest childrens a&e.

dilbertina · 08/11/2011 20:38

I'd be worried too. You are still under the care of the hospital so phone them now.

Thanks all for the advice. Have phoned hospital and they have said to continue trying to feed her to bring mucous up. If further worries then I'm to take her in and they'll help me feed her to bring it up.

Thanks.

Hope all goes well tonight and CONGRATULATIONS!

Hi,

My son was exactly the same. We rang the hospital in the middle of night. Hope your daughter has started feeding. Our son had coughed it all up within a couple of weeks. Congratulations on the birth of your baby.

my daughter was the same, it will clear! :)

i think mucous is quite common in sick in the first few days so wouldn't be overly worried myself, unless it was a lot of sick,

keep her close to you, offer the breast every time she stirs and keep an eye on her.

if you do get concerned though please, please don't think twice about taking her into the hospital, she is very new and they won't mind seeing her at all.

congratulations btw Grin

Congratulations Smile

A mucusy vomit in a very new newborn is quite normal.

If you are worried about the feeding keep offering her the breast every 30 minutes or so until she latches. Ideally you should cuddle up in bed with her with lots of skin to skin.

Good luck Smile
