Would it be really dreadful to let my almost 2year old dd to use a children's electric toothbrush?

we've had such battles trying to get her to brush her teeth, every kind of toothbrush, chewing brushes, flashing ones, princess ones, every brand of toothpaste, minty ones, chewing gum flavoured ones Hmm, fruity ones but to no avail. She hates it, the only way we can get her to brush her teeth is to pin her down and do it as fast as we can while she screams blue murder.

Tonight while ds was cleaning his teeth she asked for a Winnie the pooh electric one we've had for a while. Thinking she'd just play with it for a minute I gave it to her with a smear of toothpaste on it, and to my surprise she asked me to turn it on and actually brushed her teeth for a good five minutes! The toothbrush is for age 3 and above, but I was so amazed she was happy to use it I let her carry on. Will it damage her teeth massively, assuming this wasn't a one off?

DD has a problem with four teeth (a strip of enamel missing because of an illness) and I put her on an electric one as soon as I could, I'm fairly sure she was not quite three. I figured anything to brush effectively - the only problems I could see would be possible gum damage if you were rough. The children's heads are softer and I use them on a normal handset and do the majority of the brushing myself.
I've not noticed a problem and her dentist, who we see every couple of months, has been happy with her using it.

It won't damage her teeth.
I think the 3 and above guideline is purely because it could have small parts that could be swallowed if a child was left unsupervised.

Oh lovely, that's great to hear! I can't tell you how many toothbrushing battles I've had with her, ds is great but she's hated brushing her teeth from day 1. Let's hope it wasnt just a one off then!!

DD was recommended to try one, she's had several in her 10 years.

we have one for dd 2.5 she loves it! think the sensation of the vibration too - makes her brush longer so go for it!

Also when she s resisting I pretend to be talking toothbrush which they both love (ds age 4 dd 2.5)
I pretend to be mr/ms toothbrush and say stuff like 'what have you eaten today/' ...'oh i see a bit of broccoli/ masrhmallow etc at the back here' ...'open wide you re chomping on my head' (this bit is usually giggle inducing )
sometimes mr toothbrush warns them not to have too much treats too cos he had such a job cleaning it off!
