My 6 yr old dd (who does have mild sn) has started to play junior monopoly and loves it. We all play whenever we can.
However a couple of times I have caught her in her room with 3 teddy's playing it instead of people. So each teddy throws a dice etc.
Does anyone elses child do this? I actually felt really sorry for her tbh!

I used to - if no-one was about to play with me, then it made sense to me for teddies to play too. Cluedo never worked quite so well though....

My sister would always do things like this at this age (we have a 6.5 yr age gap, so I noticed lots of things).
I would see it as role play, or imaganitive play, I wouldnt be worried. Quite sweet really.

saadia · 30/12/2005 11:55

I think that's very innovative and imaginative of her. My dss are too young to play but it honestly doesn't sound like a problem. I agree that from our point of view it may seem like something to feel sorry about, but I remember that as a child of around your dds age I often played alone in the school playground and quite enjoyed myself, ie didn't feel sad or "odd".

FlameRobin · 30/12/2005 11:56

Oh, I had a sister too, and often played alone with the teddies by choice - so not necessarily a loneliness thing.

BoozyChristmacwoozy · 30/12/2005 11:59

I did this too with my teddies, one good thing with playing with teddies is that you can cheat to win and no teddy notices

charliecat · 30/12/2005 12:44

My dd whos 8 would do this with any board game
Nice not to have her nagging to play is it not?

mumeeee · 31/12/2005 22:15

DD3 would often choose to play board games with her teddies and dolls when she was younger.

NotQuiteCockney · 31/12/2005 22:27

I used to do this. I don't think I used teddies, but I did used to play games (card particularly) against myself. I don't think it's that odd. (I had one sister, but four years younger, and we didn't get on.)

thecattleareALOHing · 31/12/2005 22:28

Gosh, I think it's clever, imaginative and really quite gifted of her to think of this. Really I do. Well done your dd!

FairyTaleinNewYork · 31/12/2005 22:32

i used to play snakes and aldder by myself. me1 would have a go, then me2. me1 always won

Blossomhill · 01/01/2006 00:41

Thanks everyone. I am reassured that this is actually quite good!
She does have a good imagination which is good.
She is such a funny girl. Christmas day we are all sitting at the dinner table and dd is telling us all to "fill the room with squeals and chatter " LOL

I used to do this as a child too!

HappyNewFrannyandZooey · 01/01/2006 10:55

Yes I used to do it as well. I do have siblings but they were older than me and had left home by the time I was your dd's age. I think to be honest I was a bit of a lonely child, but there are worse things in the world than that. I think spending a lot of time on your own can make you quite resourceful and creative - I sort of pity people who have to always have people around them to feel comfortable, we all know someone like that.
